boristherat ·
Oh yeah, good find.
Go the pube!
PS: How does it drive? Is it OK or a bit hairy.......he he he:P
ColumBUS ·
the engine and gearbox are perfect, not a crunch, not a miss... probably because of the rebuilt engine and gearbox in it.
i forgot to take a pic of the hotdog, but yes, i do need it! thanks to trevor for giving it to me and steve for getting it off trevor because trevor didnt know where i lived.
squizy ·
Looks like pube could go the shave treatment. Or at least a trim in ride height. Sorry. 🙄

not anymore, it doesnt fit the bus. its in the parts for sale section if ur keen.
however, i did pick up this little nifty thing today...
ColumBUS ·
got the exhaust painted today, sprayed the entire thing (bar tip) in heat proof black paint, then baked in a powdercoating booth, looks awesome. yes, i apinted the muffler. i dont want to have to be polishing it all the time. not much on the bus is going to be shiny anyway. pics to come soon

😂 pube! Omg, that thing is even mankier than festy 🥷 bwahahaha, do you go cruizin for footpath 'chocklet' then drive reallly slowly past primary schools whilst munchin on ur bounty? If not you should... you grotty little tyke 🙅
ColumBUS ·
its a bit hard to munch on the old german, hold the binoculars steady and touch myself at the same time...
...but i'll give it a go! :puke
ColumBUS ·
Okay, got stuck into the interior today, and removed all of the styrofoam a previous owner had liquid nailed to the body... im going to hunt him down and kill him. this will be replaced by a thick layer of waste cotton for insulation and sound deadening, and will be covered by two toned Marine Carpet, and will feature a VW logo on the roof. if i have time, i'll also knock up the matchinbg door trims, also with VW logos.
I'm booked in at Offroad Systems for a complete interior and Custom bed and storage unit. I'm a little too long for the average kombi bed. this one needs to be near around 190cm long, and will span the whole width of the car. this setup will be in for valla, so come and check it out. 😎
pod ·
show us some pics of your disco ball on the dash ,just so everyone can see it as well 😁
ColumBUS ·
hehe pics to come. patience! i get my camera phone back on wednesday, so pictures will come then
looking forward to seeing how the interior come up! good work mate.

on thursday night we decided to get stuck into measuring up some bits of waste cotton for insulation. almost the entire car is going to have this stuff stuck in there to provide insulation as well as sound deadening. for those of you who dont know, waste cotton is simply recycled cotton material repacked to provide an awesome material that is most commonly used to dampen the interior of home entertainment speakers. it is a cheap and highly effective insulation and sound deadening material, so much so that i could afford to purchase an entire roll of the stuff!
on my way to the factory, i get a call from my man BOOCH DAWG, also known as mitch. growing up as the only black guy in our entire school, he quickly became very cool. he is so cool he drives a magna ralliart, complete with neons and subwoofers. booch dawg is really, really, cool.
anyways, booch dawg pops joins me in this episode of "send in the clowns" and also a guest appearance is made by SAWAYDA, also known as wayde.
here we are cutting up our huge roll of waste cotton
BOOCH DAWG is so cool. i think he thinks he is african american, but really he's adopted from sri lanka. oh yeah, BOOCH DAWG wasn't cutting cotton at the time, he just doesnt like his picture taken. BOOCH DAWG is so cool...
We were about halfway through the task when SAWAYDA pops in fr a visit. Wayde is a bogan, he runs the seargents mess at holsworthy barracks. he is a ute driving, wife beater wearing aussie, right down to the southern cross tattoo. so of course when he rocks up, all plans of work have well and truly gone to hell...
BOOCH DAWG really didnt like me taking this picture...
in the end it took us 6 hours to much around with the football, kick me in the nads, hit wayde with a roll of carpet, order and eat three pizzas, garlic bread and coke, run BOOCH DAWG'S car down the quarter mile, and measure and cut the waste cotton. a productive night over all.
fitting will begin tomorrow, but will not be completed as the bus is booked in at volkshaven for rust removal on the saturday morning, and i want to leave the rear quarter available for them to get stuck in there. it will be completed on sunday. until then, enjoy a randomimage i found of me headbanging...
next update, fridays insulation intallation and saturdays rust reapairs!
kevo ·
haha, randon cunt...
by the way, was that a cock and balls drawn into the polystyrine foam in that old roof lining? hahahaha
keep up the work dude
ColumBUS ·
okay today i got stuck into the installation of the insulation!
once again BOOCH DAWG was there to help, but more ended up just eating my pizza, booch is so cool i didn't even care.
i masked up the areas with thick band masking tape, and throroughly cleaned each section before applying the spray on adehesive. if you have an air compressor, i highly recommend you use the spray on adhesive, it is very forgiving which is quite fortunate for a useless tool like myself.
This was my brother Brendo, doing a trial mask up
then showing me how to point and shoot a spray gun...
first section complete
the floor...
the roof sprayed and covered...
the side panel... bodgy job?
the area around the air vents...
will try to make more happen tonight, but its getting cold and a little birdy is chirping to me on the phone...

UPDATE: WELDING.
theres nothing worse than a big fat hole in your bus, and that's exactly what i had. in the nastiest spot possible... top rear quarter, right on the most savage curves. this called for some serious welding. so at 8 30 saturday morning i popped along to Volkshaven (the only people i go to for work on my car that i cant do myself) to get it fixed. cold, windy, and pourng down rain, the boys were undeterred, and got to work straightaway.
a pic of the hole pre treatment
oh my god, i can see my house through that hole!
since it was in such a tricky place, Dunga (my man!) had to cut several times in order to find out just how severe the cancer had spread. Isn't he charming at 8 30 in the morning?
the poor, poor donor bus... ahh well, you should see the other guy!
It was at this stage that a semi disaster struck... we ran out of gas! Dunga manged to patch it up as best as he could, so poor ColumBUS has been sitting in the driveway with hs ass under shelter. tomorrow i'm back at the shop and getting the rest welded, but here is what it looks like now.
next edition we of Send in the Lowns we will see the welding finished, insulation install finished, and the carpeting and bed install begins! stay tuned...
Volkswagenboy ·
Nice one Fish, but why aren't you using the Oxy and welder?
:P
-Staggers.
ColumBUS ·
because if i was in charge, there would be a very good chance of setting the whole place on fire...
pod ·
must go and say hello to dunga myself one of these days, looks better than it did saturday😉
pod ·
ColumBUS wrote:because if i was in charge, there would be a very good chance of setting the whole place on fire...
Fish + oxy torch =🤪😂
bond ·
nice ones man... are you going to carpet the entire interior? or is it insulation for speakers or something?
nick
ColumBUS ·
Bond: I plan to carpet the entire interior with a combination of grey and anthracite marine carpet. The insulation is to deaden engine and road noise as much as possible, it gets mighty loud in an empty panelvan! Sound system will be done soon enough, that is when i can afford/find some speakers.
i will post some pictures of the materials i've used to insulate the bus ie glue and cotton, as they are both fantastic and very easy to use.
pete wood ·
when does columbus get the dump?
ColumBUS ·
ColumBUS gets the dump after Valla, when i can afford it! its very high on my priorities list, trust me
MISS VDUB ·
17 more Days till Valla, Fish...
You can do it!!! :bounce

ColumBUS ·
UPDATE: INSULATION is 99% complete!
only leaving one piece out, and thats because my welding hasnt been completed yet, will leave that out until saturday to be on the safe side.
the sides
the new floor
the front roof
the completed side
Through shot
Once again, BOOCH DAWG accompanied me and helped me out, on the condition that i put his car on the forum...
So i present to you, BOOCH DAWG and his amazingly stock ralliart Magna. BOOCH DAWG is really cool.
the rest of the insulation will be completed when the door is replaced with my new white door, which will be painted. carpeting shall commence, and the bed is being made as we speak.
in the meantime, enjoy this random work shot of myself... enjoy!
h ·
oh yeah.. i dig it man.. :P
pete wood ·
that glue would be a bit flammable wouldn't it?:duh
rearengine ·
Ahh the Ralliart "stock" Magna, a true collectors item:P
ColumBUS ·
pete - yes, the glue is flammable, but its not about to catch alight with a cigarette spark and set my car ablaze in seconds. If my car gets hot enough to set that glue on fire, chances are there is no chance of saving the car anyway. i did look at that before i started the work, and found that this was the best option.
If my car does go up in flames because of the glue, i'll buy you a beer :beer
rearengine - i told you he was cool!
jaksc ·
Where did you buy a roll of insulation like that. Need some also for my splitty. What was the ruff cost.

haha, thats a sticky lookin joint ya got there man :thumb
ColumBUS ·
once again its another late night at the factory, but instead of laying down insulation, im laying down the carpet! woot!
Kevo - its not a joint, just the average death stick.
the carpet im using costs about $20 per linial metre, is very easy to work with, strong, and easy to clean. im using a combination of anthracite and grey... will post piccies asap

i found a tape deck man if you get really really stuck, i think i must have sold that other one last year at the boris swap 😉
ColumBUS ·
ok for all the people wandering about the glue i was using, this is the stuff
ColumBUS ·
okay this is just a sample of the carpet that is going in, the anthracite will be lining the lower half of the bus, as well as the roof. the grey will be running along the top half of the bus to break it up a little bit. here is the anthracite
and the grey
the photos dont really show the difference in colour that well, but the contrast is enough to break it up quite nicely
ColumBUS ·
okay here are a few shots of the carpet that has gone in so far. its definitely not a show winning job, but its not bad for my first time i think.
more pics to follow tonight when i throw some anthracite in there. aiming to get it finished tonight so work on the bed can continue.
bugeyedbabe ·
ok...now where did u get it?
also the waste cotton too?
pls pls pls pls pls pls
ColumBUS ·
I am a very tall man.
i am approximately 187cm tall, and thus the average folding kombi bed seat just isnt big enough to suit. So... time to build a new one.
the bed had to meet these requirements:
strong (im a big boy, and in traditional kombi style, its not just me in there 😀 )
long (at least 200cm)
foldable - for extra storage space when the bed isnt being used
removable - there might come a time when i dont want the bed in there.
we used a lightweight, waterproof 15mm ply as our base material, and set to work.
we cut the rear piece to fit using a simple hand held jig. we didnt have time for exact measurements, but we still managed to make it fit quite nicely.
because of the length of the bed, support struts were fashioned in place where the rear folding seat would usually sit.
the second piece was slightly trickier than the first. we had to build it sp that it would fold ovewr 180 degrees, and so was cut to fit the roof of the car as tight as possible, whilst still being easy to fold. we used scrap cardboard as a dummy fit, and shaped accordingly.
once again, the end of the bed had to be supported, but still be foldable. cut two pieces of the same ply to fit underneath the bed, and placed them as close to the end of the bed - and as close to each other - as possible. we fashioned them to the bed using piano hinges, so that they sit flat when packed away, but hold stiff when the bed is folded out.
and we're all done! a photo of the bed folded up...
and all folded out... (will take better photos later, its dark, sorry!)
grr ladies and gewnts, its just so seems that photo bucket is being a shit and wont resize my photos... will post them later when i can figure it out.

COLUMBUS RIDES TO VALLA!
all the way there, no problems whatsoever! not a drop of oil leakage, and cruised at roughly 12-14ltr/100kms... i was stoked.
lady valla made an impression... valla or bust baby!
ok, in my laziness, i havent taken any new photos of the bed, however, they will come soon!
instead, here are some shiny bits i picked up from valla...
eyelids! always loved them. one of them has been fitted at an odd angle, so he kinda looks a little stoned, especially at night with the headlights on... classic!
also picked up some billet window winders. considering what was on there before consisted of plastic, with a bolt through as a handle, this is a major upgrade.
also picked up an empi short shifting kit, to be fitted soon...
drove down to downtown warilla recently, and met up with old mate chris 'amazer' fraser. dying to work on a dub of any kind, he kindly did some work to my brakes, handbrake, and gave the thing a general tune up... these are the tools he used.
whilst he's still running a little ill after the loooong cruise to valla and back, he's survivng. in fact, he managed to pull a motorbike all the way down to canberra and back, with very little hassle... except for the fact that due to the gale force winds blowing ColumBUS and huuge trailer all over the highway, i couldnt get far over 80km/hr...
it just goes to show that no matter where you are, there will always be another dubber out there... this shot was taken at goulburn maccas... not a bad specimen either.
wacked1 ·
scrolling down the page then you come to the pic of your chick in the back of the bus, gold jerry gold.
did you guys drive all the way with her in the back window if you did it would of been a crack to see.
cheers

Volkswagenboy ·
Ahem who was the skillful person who installed those eyebrows because you didn't know how??
-Staggers.
ColumBUS ·
wow... should probably update this thing a little more often... but then again, should probably do a little more work to the poor bus!
has been out of commission for a while, and has been left in the backyard awaiting my wallet to fill before any more work gets done (that and we need to order in more carpet)
BUT... since the wallet has been filling up, i decided to spend a little of it. since this new job has been bringing in a little extra cash, I decided to take a little risk, show my age (young and dumb... mmm big and shiny!) and bought these rims for an absolute steal! cheers to greedy53 for these.
they might look good on the bus, they might not. either way, i'll give them a run. 17x7, already modified to fit the bus, all i need to do is supply the rubber. as soon as tires are fitted i'll whack em on the bus and see if i likes it.
the rubber will be a low profile, with a thin whitewall to bring out the shiny. as much as wel all love chrome i decided against it as i really, really, really dont want anything stolen off this bus, and whilst the rims look good, i have a feeling theres not a huge demand for modified ford territory alloys.
kevo ·
good luck finding any sort of white wall 17"s man
DoNkEy ·
very interested in seeing how the bed was done. Looking great. Given me some ideas 😀
ColumBUS ·
kevo, the white walls can be painted on... greedy used a local bloke... apparently it involves shaving a tiny edge out of the side and painting it in with liquid nylon?????
unsure of the complete process, but its cheap and effective
ColumBUS ·
okay headed out to the sydney stripes last night... what a blast. a few tunes, a few beers and a lot of wikkid art action. being artistically retarded myself, i left it to the professionals...
i parked the bus and said 'go nuts'. the whole idea of this bus is that its A) a whole lot of fun and B) a plethora of different imaginations running wild all at once.
TIKI was the theme of the night apparently, and so it began...
they also branded my bus... He belongs to something now!
thanks to krooooozn62 for organizing the night, it will be happening again soon and i surely do hope more people will turn out to try their hand at pinstriping, art, and carving. heres a few action shots of the master atwork on a new tiki creation...
