Dave, I heard that Bergs or CB Performance source their cranks from China and they only finish them in the USA, so keep an eye out for aftermarket VW stuff if your anywhere near Shanghai. There is a wholesale market there thats like 10 aircraft hangars or something where you can buy anything, but its sold by the container FOB.

I am back

I was astounded by the number of VWs in china

i would say it was every 2nd car i saw in the citys,,,, no aircooled not even in farmers back yards only watercooled Jetta, Santana, a few golfs n Polos and Passat millions of the buggars only saw 3 new Beetles n no Kombis of any shape

VW + China = 2nd Wolfsburg.

In the late 1980's VW was the 2nd mass producing manufacturer to enter the Chinese market (1st being Jeep).

VW made 2 Joint Ventures with two Chinese Auto Companies, this friendship gave VW 50% of the whole Chinese Auto market until around 2003/04 when GM, Toyota & Hyundai entered the mix.

VW's market share is now around 20-30% if memory serves correct.

BTW there would be no Aircooled VW's seeing as though there was no Auto Industry pre 1980's.

in the early 60s they built vws in china they had type one chassis and running gear and their own body like a type 3 notch not many made though
