How many kw at the wheels did your car make John? I have never actually heard a figure.
I will have mine back on in a week or so, as I have been busy..I had think I had 230hp, although that was with a leaky BOV, and a few other little glitches that have since been sorted..hope for 200kw as this is still old motor, although who cares what figures a dyno claims, feels like its going harder, I do 500kms a week and have wasted every car that stupidly thought they were quick.
The new motor(2002) will have a custom tig welded intake maniold, new stainless headers and exhaust, a secret turbo, maybe a secret crank and a 50-75 Nos kit.
I want to run high 10's.... still a daily driver though.

It was my 1st year. In fact the first event last year was the first time I had ever driven a VW (apart from on and off the trailer). VW's are my old mans passion. I knew bugger all about them then and know $hit about them now (Im still trying to figure out the firing order). I just enjoying driving them hard on the race track.

Gull, what Rizzo said is incorrect, and keep in mind Craig's hillclimb Beetle is a VW-powered VW and as such, can race in CAMS events as one without any class/identity dramas. So is bat69's.
But having said that, I think you know I am a great supporter of 'retrotech' transplants, having done a few, including VN EFI into WB, Delco/5.0 V8 into EA Ford and co-ordinating/assisting wih a mate's WRX/Type 3 transplant.
Dude, I can buy a JDM Soobie WRX for full-fun track work for $5K, so for pure fun on the cheap, why would I fuk around with a VW transplant? 馃檪

I have no doubts there are heaps quicker cars out there.....My idea of a race would be a 200km drive to a supersprint, then a 150km drive to hillclimb and then back to the creek for a 1/4 mile run. Oh I forgot..2 passengers as pit crew and tools.
I have not popped off to anyone in the street how fast my car is.... what I said was that shit talkers look even more stupid when they loose. Havnt had a race for a week, the last was a new, worked evo 8 and I did him by 4 car lenghts. My partner used to own the rx3 with plates IDO 10Z. He ran a 10.4 at willowbank with the front wheels off the graound pretty much the whole way down the strip. It was illegal, he had mini tubs and ran 30psi, so I know what rota motars can do, as does everyone else. Mine is 850kg (1800lb), a stock rexxy is 832kg, I think that I could easily get away with a stock 1700lb kennedy though. Depends greatly on your driving style & what u use the car for. I also put a kombi clutch lever arm on as well as they are 1 inch taller than the L-Bug, this helps make the clutch feel lighter, especially when in daily traffic.

ok thanks Jak .Now is it true you are geting away with a stock L bug box ?
As you know this is the big ? every one asks
how long will you get away with a L bug box
71EJVan 路
On my Kombi I will be using a Kennedy 2100lb with stock plate and lengthened Kombi throwout arm.
I am using a 002 (1600) belhousing on a 091 (2 litre) gearbox which gives me a 200mm clutch (off the shelf parts). The only downside is that the throwout shaft in the 002 is not as big as a 091 which would have allowed me to run a type 3 arm which is longer.
I will cut lengthen and box up the existing arm another 15mm to get a softer clutch pedal.

Now its sensible chirps into every gear like Jak....Its faster that way anyhow. Albins mainshaft is $650(lifetime warranty) gearsets are $350 each...that would be a pretty unbreakable box for about $3000. Drove to Nelson bay and back on Sunday...big smile.

What have ratios got to do with anything. Its got porsche ratios remember. Its also made to take good hp, thats teh only reason people look at them. Aparently you cannot help look at them they are that big.
What ratios are you looking for anthony??? If you have a turbo, please tell me you're not considering a close ratio box...tall..tall is what you need, as boost is your best friend and likes legs not changes. Even with a lbug 3.88 I am looking at taller 4th, and the rest are perfect.
Matt
malcolm 路
anthony there more ratio,s for a porsche box than you can point a stick at.the reno box,s are very long from the centre of the drive shaft to the seleter end of the box.if your looking at 200kw @ the wheels + porsche box and support the motor as porsche do in the 911 don,t have all the weight hanging of the gearbox which will twist the box and screw your gears.
1303Steve 路
71superbug wrote:hate to bring up an old thread but i beliece the UN5 is the better box steve, and these were used in the lotus esprits.
Anthony
Hi Anthony
Maybe they are a great gearbox, but where can you buy one?
As for G50 ratios, this is what I have, sorry its in MPH, they look good for a turbo to me.
porsche used a 4 speed G50 in the 930 turbos so they could stretch their legs ,hard box to find though.a 915 can handle 500hp with the right setup.
what is the point a having all the power in the world and to scared to put it to the road whether its ej20t or hipo vw.
thats different ratios that i saw last time i looked steve. i think i saw somewhere that g50's had a 2. something final drive. which would probably be a bit tall. but i must have been given the wrong info. those ratios look pretty good.
and as far as diff ratios for porsche boxes go im sure there are heaps but they cost the price of most peoples cars.
and i had the number of a palce that imports the un5's for about 2 grand i think.
i will have a look see if i can find it again..
Anthony

No, Porsche use the four-speed because the then-current five-speed (1970s) couldn't take the torque
Good point about having all that power and no way to use it - the gearbox is usually the weakest link!

vwcool if that is the case why didn,t they just build a 5 speed G50 from the start.at that time their 911 boxes weren,t strong enough and the 901 box wasn,t much stronger than a single side plate L bug box.

Dunno! I'm just explaining why there was no five-speed in the original 930. Too much torque.
Wouldn't it be good if we could turn the diff around in a WRX box so it could run five forward speeds rather than five reverses!... :cry
