bit the bullet today and went for rego, thought id lined up the 'right' place to go in sydney eastern suburbs.
i was wrong.
fine tooth comb, need i say more.
now ive got the shits.
ragtopp ·
I hate that sort of shit!
I remember 10 years ago in NSW i would take the old bug from place to place till someone would give me a rego slip. Guess they have probably closed that loop hole now. We got an inspection station that is run by one of the club members here, that helps.
When i moved to Tassie my bay ute, which had only done 48000 kms from new, was knocked back because the wiper blade missed a section of the windscreen down the bottom due to the curve of the glass. I saw three government inspectors before one of them signed me off. These sorts of pricks i rate lower than traffic cops!!

It is for your benefit that it complies, and mine, and my kids, and my granny, and my friends, and everyone that uses the road

Thats right silver, but as in my above example a small amount of water on the screen out of drivers main viewing area is hardly going to be a killer. There are times when some discrection from inspectors is needed.
VWFOOL ·
yeah ur right
pyr0 ·
also look at it this way if you fix everything they write down and take it back they cant knock you back, for anything else...i dont think :duh

thats no good sam did thay pic much im going 4 inspection in a week or so fingers crossed hope i dont have same trouble :thumb

yeah short term pain - some frustration - for long-term gain - a safe car.
Get it all right and it will pass no worries because the law says so! What did they knock you back on, Sam?
VWFOOL ·
he found a 2cm crack in the firewall, wants me to get i cut out and rewelded, seriously, this is the most rust free VW ive ever seen, cant belive he found it and knocked me back on it. also worn link pins and a few other things.
handycam ·
oh ok the front end is what im worried about in mine ??? but dont want 2 waist $$$

My blue slip inspection was a joke
VWFOOL ·
who did it?
Bizarre ·
Be a little care full
Dont they still submit the failed report?
If another place passes there can be questions asked

blutopless2 ·
here in vic the original report shows both a first and second inspection. so if anything fails it will show it.. then after repairs are done the second test will show the items that have been fixed as a pass.
If they have failed you on king & link pins being sloppy then i dont think you will find someone who will pass it. I have had two cars roadworthy tested in the last 6 months and the first thing the mechanic did once the car was up on the jack was to grab the front tyres and check for wear in the king and link pins.
matara ·
Sam
I always ensure I have tightened up my link pins before I take the car in for a pink/blue slip, and I stop around the corner, pump them up with grease, then drive it in. Any play will come back with the first pothole, but I've squeezed through a few times like this.
However currently my splitty king pins are currently off being rebuilt as I speak though!
Cheers
Steve

where is the best place for a blue slip in Newcastle?. Sam may know.
pete wood ·
^ please don't post this, u2u the address to 72super. apparently there is someone on here who likes to shut down reasonable inspectors.👎

There was a bloke (it's been a few years now) at the back of Islington, across the road from Tetrin engineering.
Not a VW nut, but he looked at older cars as older cars. Didn't expect them to be 100%.
Failed my kombi on a couple of silly things, the demister was one of them, but all in all he was pretty fair. He may still be there.

pete, not after a dodgy one just need to know where one is!
Schmoburger ·
Dodgy?... the way I see it the total assholes who let the power go to their head are the dodgy ones... :puke
Blue slips are bullshit... shonky people are allowed to drive total wrecks year after year, yet honest folk who take classic's off the road for a resto are knocked back on useless shit on what is more roadworthy than most $500 crap-on-wheels that your average P-plater drives!
WHy should someone like Sam fail a blue on sloppy linkpins while say for instance my mates bay passes a standard inspection whilst full of rust, leaking oil like a sieve, and devoid ( at the time of last rego) of so much as working headlights and a horn!!?? :duh
VWFOOL ·
i see both sides, and i guess i am just pissed coz its a major set back and i wanted to be on the road for valla. its annoying coz the amount of play in minimal and the guy just wrote king pins need replacing without checking if it just neded an adjustment of the link pins or watever. also the rust, its seriously nothing.
my qustion is, do i have to go back to the same guy? is there a time limit, like 2 months from now can i go to someone else?
handycam ·
id fix it asap and take somewere els and try b4 paperwork goes trew
ragtopp ·
Hey mate i think the old take it around the road doesnt gell any more, there will be a failed inspection report. That is the loop hole they have changed.
I agree with buttercup, there are good honest inspectors but to often the one i get has the small cock syndrome. The average person is the only one that gets stuck. The people with major death traps dont give a rats about failed inspections causemost of them dont even bother with rego.
byronbus ·
Sam, how bad are the link pins, do as matara said and say they were redone...the rust sounds easy to fix...
Some places ive been to dont even do a full on re-inspection, they just want to know youve done something to fix the problem...otherwise fit the new beam, as long as the king and link pins are good, keep it standard height, doubt he will notice...
VWFOOL ·
ah theres a slight problem with the new beam and i dont think it will pass for other reasons. im getting the work done this weekend in newcastle then ill take it back to the guy, i was just venting my anger at his nit picking.

haha... all the venting and effort to get safe/right for a blue slip and then go pear shape any way!!! love it.

I had a bad experiance with a blue slip dude. The seat belts in my bay wouldnt lock if you pulled them hard. The mechanism has a pendulum weight inside that locks the belt in place I tried to explain to him that they only locked under braking force with the car in motion. I even offered to take one down that I had pulled apart to show him how it works, but he would have none of it. He made me buy a new belt, and this one did exactly the same thing, would not lock when the car was standing still. When I took the car back he never even looked at it, just spied the reciept for the new belt and signed off on the slip. A wasted $100! VW realised that sometimes you need to move forward in your seat so they designed their belts like this with that in mind. I have a ford festiva for a runaround car, I dont know How many times I have had to look backward through the side window and the bloody belts wont let me move. I dont have this problem in the Kombi.

Hey sam have you been driving it down to Sydney for inspections? Be carefull trhere are a few of the rego cameras about at the moment that can tell if a car is unregistered when you drive by them. mitchell
BTW who is that in your avatar and what is happening? curious M

I took my 1970 beetle and 5 year old commodore in together for pink slip inspections this week at an Ultratune store.
The commodore was thoroughly checked, up on the hoist and everything, but all the beetle got
was a quick drive around the block. Who knows the logic to how they work!
VWFOOL ·
no mitchell, im in sydney now so not driving between newcastle and here with it, just going to the closest blue slip place to where i live.
david, which ultratune?

This thread just reminded me of some crap that somebody on the Mini forum got caught in...
Cant remember what registry, but there was some guy (ethnic background I believe... not being inflammatory, just an aid to identification) at the registry, an inspector, who was going around the vehicles parked in the registry frisking em to see what stuopid thing he could defect em on... then the dude in the mini questioned his intentions, after which the man with the small dick demanded to see under the bonnet of the Clubman.... and upon the owner complying with the request, the asshat decided that the Del' carby under the hood of the Mini was illegal.. :duh
I'm pretty sure this dodgy inspector guy was reported after being told in no uncertain terms to get facked, but i assume he is still around. :puke:

I put mine through to get rego in QLD about 4 months ago and the bloke put a fine tooth comb over it.
He gave me a list of small things to fix>
Demister
Passenger side mirror
seat belt
reversing lights
loose seat belt bolt
Took the back a couple of days latter and without looking he signed it all off.
