well, i can tell the VW Spectacular is getting close, because AS USUAL, my car has developed a sudden major problem!
this year it's looking like gearbox/diff problems.
when the car is traveling backwards, even with the motor off and neutral selected, a giant shudder rocks the whole car. it is coming from the rear end......
any ideas on what i am going to be doing the Thursday nite before the Valla show appreciated.....
i'm thinking it's something in the diff, anyone have a good idea of the problem?

Brakes draging maybe

Schymo is thinking loose pinion nut...but we can't work out why it is only when traveling backwards wtih no noise and no noises when going forwards, even when "backing off"
loose nut and diff riding on edge??

I see your point, it would tent to draw the pinion out in reverse

yeah, the light of day has revealed the problem.
hit the muffler late yesterday, must have shoved it over towards the back tire. being rubber mounted, when going forwards, the tyre would just rub on the tail pipe, pushing the muffler up and out of the way, but going backwards, it drags the muffler down till the rubber mounts overpower the force of the tyre, and it springs up again. hence the shudder!😊
too easy thanx for looking
now i can get back to the plan and today will be spent mounting up the EA rear discs,👍
