i just stumbled across this on ebay and it really made me angry..

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/SPLIT-SCREEN-KOMBIS-EX-AUSTRALIA-POP-TOP-CAMPER_W0QQitemZ320001851818QQihZ011QQcategoryZ18303QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

" WE NOW HAVE AN IMPORTER / AGENT BASED IN CORNWALL."

imagine how many vw's it would take for them to "establish a loyal fan base in the UK"

i just wonder how these people can sleep at night if they are indeed based in Melbourne..

/end rant (too much fortified chardonnay i think 馃槀)

if i lived in England, i'd be overjoyed to get a good kombi... but since i live here... BASTARDS... STOP GIVING AWAY OUR VOLKSWAGENS... STOP... NOW... COS I SAID SO :P

Might as well sell them...no one here wants them or they would be bidding. At least they are "on the road" and not in a paddock somewhere馃槑

holy cr@p i know that kombi, i posted it in spotters forum, was on the back of a trailer being towed by a rangerover down Lilydale Main St, and looking at those photos Im almost certain that they were taken in a little side road/alley in Ringwood, just down from the bargain centre and Mitre10 Mega

I'm in kind of two minds about a bus like that. In one way, I know that people in OZ wouldn't bother with a modded split like that when there are more original ones available, while Poms are happy to spend big bucks on any split that doesn't need the bottom 6" of metal replacing. On the other hand, I wouldn't like to think that England gets all our precious metal, just for them to rust on English roads like all the others they've had.

Still, if Poms are happy to pay, there'll always be some individual willing to sacrifice the family jewels. I spose we just need to hope that it's not one of many businesses doing the same. And personally, I can't see that it is. Afterall, there just is not that much money in VWs, even in England, and the price of Splitties has clearly peaked recently. It has to die down a bit soon, and when it does, this guy will give up coz it won't be worth the effort. So the only thing we can do, is encourage people to pay less for splitties and drag the market price down worldwide. 馃槈

P.s. Most of the splits that are fully restored over there would be lucky to be driven on a wet day. Owners save them up for special events and keep them away from salty roads.

yes, very true.
if they are prepared to pay so much for a splittie that's in need of a lot of love, then they would have to be a VW nut 馃榾
and it's good that one more splittie gets the love it deserves, even if it's not here in Oz

its all crap ... we all know whos got the split stash in Oz. Consider that despite the seemingly low cost of buying, comparible to the UK (if you can find one), the resto cost is way more, as the cost of labour is more. Having lived there last year, you sure font earn 2.5 times as much there as you do here!. So they remain an expensive proposition.

www.vwrelics.co.uk - imports more than enough for the pommies ... and hes a SSVC regular.

Don't get too freaked out ... split aint rare.
