As I'm rebuilding the engine on the splitty, I've purchased a set on new cam bearings (Mahle).
Each half of the no. 3 bearing (the thrust bearing with the flanges on the side) is different. One half does not have the flanges. Is this correct, or did I get a dodgy pack of bearings?
I cannot find a reference to each half being different in any of my manuals.

Yes it is correct, as standard only one half is flanged. I have heard of people buying two sets and using two flanged shells instead of the standard one.

That has been done but what stops the bearings rotating. Only the unflanged one has the tab for locking in place if my memory serves me correctly.
For a standard engine I'd rather the single flange and the tab in the unflanged one to prevent rotation regardless of whether there MAY be enough crush to prevent rotation as the add says. When the cam bearing cases came out mid 60s, we did put the other one in but we did cut/depress a small tab on one for security.
As PurpleT3 hasn't come accross this before, one would presume he is building a standard engine and for the first time. Good to see another owner doing his own work.
