Eye Brows - are they legal?

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/54065/eye-brows-are-they-legal

70Beetle ·

A friend of mine who is a retired highway patrol cop (NSW), saw my beetle and pointed out that the eye brows were illegal. He recons they were on their list of defective items because they were classed as a sharp object on the front of the car.

Has anyone ever heard of this in NSW or other states?

jeremy ·

I have heard similar, does anyone know for sure?

Bizarre ·

There IS a rule about "sharp object on the front of the car"

From there itis up to interpretation

My guess is you would loose

MickH ·

Not legal (QLD anyway) I've done the bastard act and had to fail a RWC due to them being fitted.Just as well as main roads sent the car down to "check us out". How lucky was that....:jesus

My guess is there are several areas there you couldget pinged.

If you have a look at the bike rack one it says you should wrap the bike rack number plate in plastic/foam.

You could always get some armaflex and slice it and put that over the eyebrow, like mascara :puke

h ·

never had an issue in qld but why would they bother with eyebrows when the flying vw on my bonnet would do a rip and tear job thats for sure.. lucky it was a factory accessory..😉

pete wood ·

Yep, my VW mechanic mate was telling me the other day, whilest struggling to put some in I might add, that they are in fact illegal. Apparently they are classed as a "protruding edge".

Bizarre ·

Note: Para 25 (1) does not apply to an object fitted to a vehicle designed before 1965 and the object was part of the design of the vehicle, or the object was fitted to the vehicle in accordance with the law in place when the object was fitted.

Think you are safe

All depends how much you piss off the person in charge

68AutoBug ·

I've always thought they were dangerous....
The T brackets used instead of bumpers are another
source to injure pedestrians...
but the eyebrows would do terrible damage....

Maybe if they were a flexible chromed plastic....??

PrettyBlueBug ·

My PBB passed Roadworthy and the inspection for registration with eyelids fitted! :P

I actually took them off her a couple of weeks ago... she looks weird without them!

Volkswagenboy ·

To tell you the truth, I reckon you'd have to hit someone fairly hard to injure them with eyebrows! If you did they'd probably have a broken shin bone from the bumper, a sore head from the bonnet, a busted kneecap from the mudguard itself... in other words try not to hit anyone!

fekkinell ·

stupid rules... motorbikes, trucks, my bullbar, all of these will hurt ya... not to mention those little blue and red lights they bolt onto the grills of the new police vans... hmmm

besides, windscreen wipers are one of the most dangerous "protruding edges" because that's where your head lands... don't see them banning those stupid "sports look" wiper blades.

oop... maybe i shouldn't say that, someone in a brown suit in an office somewhere might be listening :P

helbus ·

Does she look surprised with her eyes fully open?

my ex's rola failed for having racing pedals

The best thing to do is live in a climatically controlled sterile bubble with your body preferebly wrapped in deloused and disinfectant dipped cotton wool inside a vacuum in space so that the bubble is suspended in negative matter (IE a black hole) that way the authoritys could assume you would be relatively safe. Of course there would have to be a government controlled and funded think tank that would have to travel every capitol city on the planet, and of course each delegated member would have to reside at a 10 star $20,000 a night hotel for the duration of these meetings, all at tax payers expence to confirm that this is the best option to accept and legislate for. and then I would be sooooo happy the powers that be are looking after my welfare! and banning unessasary fashion statements, like Headlight visors! Dose anybody know how many PPL have been injured or killed by these horrendously dangerous items.
Rob...

bajachris88 ·

how about a bubble wrap respray? Haha.

I got T bars, are they illegal? thought they would look nicer than a front bull bar on a bug eyed... and wouldn't hurt as much.

Matt Ryan ·

If we just took all the "warning" lables off everything, then we could get rid of all the stupid people by natural selection.

Robo ·

😉

its ether that or we make the stupid people where a sign saying that they are stupid so we dont trust them

barls ·

oh yes and t bars are illegal under the dangerous protrusion rule

bajachris88 ·

FARGE!!!!

Volkswagenboy ·

Plus those T-Bars you have are the wrong type Chris.
-Staggers.

bajachris88 ·

useless to everyone if they are illegal 🙁

Make great paperweights i spose.

Volkswagenboy ·

Illegal=something fun.
I'd use T-bars!
-Staggers.

fekkinell ·

Illegal = just that... its against the law. And since the law is now so over regulated by people in brown suits who are too scared to walk down the street, I have little respect for it. And when you have little respect for something, it's no longer a big deal. Thus just cos somethings 'illegal' now definitely won't stop me from doing it.

I've got my own morals and conscience for that!

HerbieBoy82 ·

Oh crap! I've wanted to put eyebrows on the bug for years now....... Now I'm just gonna have to if they're illegal.
My pink slip inspector likes eyebrows too...... They've got them on their VW as well!

PrettyBlueBug ·

She so does! Makes her look more innocent though... :P

my black bug has Tbars and i intend on keeping them

it just depends on the inspector
im lucky mine turns a blind eye to things like redrilled drums, wheels that protrude from the gaurds and other things most would have coronary at

they cant police it theres just to many vws getting around with eyebrows and tbars etc

Joel

pete wood ·

dub74l, using that argument you could legalise heroin, alcohol for highschool kids, uncontrolled handguns and a host of other really dangerous stuff. Several million Germans hated Jews but that didn't make it right either. Don't be a sheep. If it's illegal don't do it, or get the law changed. Most stuff that is 'illegal' on cars can be simply rectified by having the car engineered properly anyway. Besides, real customisers find ways around the rules without actually breaking them, that's enginuity. 😉

bajachris88 ·

rubber t bars? Hehe

Joel ·

dont mind me i'm just having a bitch coz my clutch cable broke last night and i taught the neighbours all sorts of swear words today replacing it

i forgot how much fun a bug is driving with no clutch

Joel

Volkswagenboy ·

😀 I love that job!
NOT!!!
-Staggers.

Joel ·

well its a nice easy 20 min job when theres a big hole carved in the central tunnel but my bug doesnt have that thankfully i would never subject it to it either so i just put up with cut knuckles and pissed off neighbours instead

I guess this means that "Erections" will be illegal sometime soon...!!!!!

Dangerous Protusion Rule.....!!!!!!!:duh

mscabrio ·

Our oval has eyebrows and when we took her for her first RWC the inspector didn't say anything about them and he was super picky or maybe he just couldn't be bothered listing all the defects after 2 pages worth??????

h ·

OMG 2 pages.. 🤪

Notch Nut ·

It should be really easy to get a VW to pass a RWC with eyebrows. Just make sure that you are the car in line *after* the 1950's Cadillac/Chevrolet/Chrysler. Anyone familiar with the bumpers on those things would know what a *real* sharp protrusion is. Bring back the good old days where if you screwed up, it had consequences. Nowdays it seems if you screw up, it is someone elses fault and you can sue them. (Yeah..I know I wasn't lookin when I crossed the road but this crazy guy was driving along in his kombi at 30kph and poked my eyes out with his really sharp water jet nozzle.).
Bring on the revoloution so we can line up these jerks against a wall and poke them to death with semaphores, over-riders, eyebrows and flying VW emblems.

Ive just discovered that its not really about the rules. Its about pinging law obiding citizens under the guise of an RBT, then pining you for anything that they can dream up - given they have the leather jackets - and handing over the bill. Of course if you want to argue the toss, go to court etc., then you have a right to, but that will probably cost you more than the fine....so yes, if the copper feels like it they can bill you for anything they like. It would be great if you could challenge it, and then bill them for being wrong, but the justice system doesnt work like that.

How many people would take the hit rather than take the high ground.

If its a slow night, then yep its illegal, if its a busy night, it will be just fine.

And we elect and pay these people. Madness.

crewcabconnection ·

I think having offensive organic eyebrows should be illegal, especially if your representing people to the world. Howards obviously got issues with anyone having cool eyebrows has hes been trying for decades, and they still ARE NOT COOL.

Notch Nut ·

Question..Is a factory fitted machine gun on a Kubelwagen classifed as a "sharp object" that would render it un-roadworthy?

Heheh....I'd love to stand on the seat, salute and shout out at the officer "ACHTUNG MARTHA FOKKER!!"😂

Yeah, I can fondly remember driving to work every day untill payday when I was young and didn't have a spare.(dollar or clutch cable) A couple of times I put off buying the cable for another week or two because life got in the way. Turning off the ignition everytime you wanted to come to a complete stop and then starting with first gear engaged is a pain but you get used to it, the rest of your gear changes just make you feel like Fangio.

Matt.

ian.mezz ·

Its only illegal if you get court:cry as are many things we do to our rides.
