Yes this is where everyone gets fooled...........83000K's of sitting in bumper to bumper traffic at idle or doing about 3km/h................which in Aussie terms is about 300000km's

71superbug ·

so tell me which hypo vw motor can last 83,000 k's of bumper to bumper traffic, make that sort of power with expansion possibilities and still run for a fair while?(without a rebuild)

No arguement from me......................just be aware that k's in Japan are no comparison to Aussie k's or mileage we are used too, this can be said for any Jap import motors not just Subies. Ideally it would be great if engines had hour meters on them :thumb

Thanks Ash

Craig I have been with subaru for some years now , and seen a lot of JDM motors .You are correct in the * run * time .You just need to be sure in what you are getting with a Jap low k JDM .Here is the run down for you all , now I am giving away some clues for you all so read it .

The Jap JDM subarus dont have year build on the plate attached to the car .If you remove the oil filler cap and look on the under side you will see a date : The WRX front cut I have has 2 ( 94 ) = Feb 04 1994 .The Unit I have has a plastic header tank ( like an RS ) but with single bolt to the coil packs on the spark plugs , these heads have a good lifter set up .

The motor has done 72000 ks from 1994 , dash has never been removed , stock ecu , G/ready boost T was removed in Japan .

The WRX is not a bad motor with the good heads , better than the early RS legacy motors .I have three of these one is a factory RS legacy turbo motors here .The RS motor suffer from the very small lifters & require thin oil & oil changes every 8000ks .I like the RS motors and I am using one in my Dragon just to give Humpty the shits over here as it cost bugger all to build .

I know Simon is doing his dream build aircooled compressor I like the man for that .I am going to like it more when we get out & have a Drag race and after sit down & have a beer together I dont care who wins realy I know it will be me .

In short its the bang for you buck we have all seen the sums guys adding costs up and what you get for your $ .You your self have done the maths

For me the Subaru 2ltr quad cam turbo is the best motor you can get for a street vw & a Ej22 for a bus There is no way you can build a VW motor that will go as hard all day for years on end cost bugger all to run .

Mick I have the rev master unit ( lighter fly wheel ) from my buggy here you can have that one if you like .I sold the ej22 motor & it has a SR20 now .If you have big wheels it a good unit to run .Its on the shelf next to SirDeltons unit

O Ash Can I please have first look at them ?
& What time you coming over to wash my car ?

Subaru is keeping some of these old vw still going , with out them they will not be on our roads .They would be at the tip .

Seagull Neil

seagull ·

Thanks Ash it was your good looks :kiss

MickH ·

Two of my VW's have been Subaru for a while now.Thanx for the offer on the Rev Master unit but the heavier flywheel version is better for the bigger wheels on a buggy. I have free ej22's (2 of) and i wanted to see if your kit was any different to the ones i could get here.It appears the same.Thanx for the pictures!!!
