desperately needing 1300 or 1500 gear box.

Hi people,

Hope you can help me.

I need a 1500 gear box for blue belle. She was sold as a 1200/1300, but after checking with Mick at Micks Motors he tells me she is a 1500.

I ended up purchasing a new door mechanism (thanks to JonnyB for trying to locate a good 2nd hand one...i truley appreciate it) I now need to look at locating a gearbox for blue belle.

If I can source one quickly enuf, for the right amount (money coming from my valla fund 🙁) I can take her.

Otherwise I will be taking Edith, which I am not really complaining about, since she has served me so well over the last year. But if I can, the confort of Blue Belle would be nice. And to show of the great work Alan Law (and his friends) has done in restoring her.

PS: im in brisvegas...and its a standard - which i think means irs?? correct me if im wrong, cause i have no idea...

Hi,
If she's a standard 1500, she would have swing rear axles.
Only Supers and Auto bugs had the IRS rear end...

although really speaking, swing axles are Independant Rear Suspension also....

Its just that CV joints are called IRS...

What happened to Your original gearbox?

The one i have is jumping out of every gear...and sometimes refusing to go into them...well...more often than not ...

When I picked her up, it was just jumping out of top gear...Mick said it shoudl be ok for a little while...which was about 2 days worth of driving ...

In any case, I know I can't do the mechanical things myself, so I usually leave it to the experts...in this case Mick (or Jace if I can find one quick enuf (which I doubt))


Worst thing is, now Edith is jumping out of first, which I think is 'syncromesh?", which is a smaller job to be done.

But I want to try to keep at least one on the road at a time...So first to be done is Blue Belle...then it will be Edith (ultimeately I'd like a number of things done for Edith, which means more time...but less money as they tend to be just 'fiddly' thing) unless I cannot locate a decent gearbox for Blue Belle within the next week, which means Edith is going in for an overhaul.

Thing is, if I cnt find a gearbox, and they run out of time to fix Edith, then I may be at Valla without a car, or borrowing one...ARRRGGHHHH...








hmm...maybe i should make jace come over and take a look and tell me what i have...
(no jokes about a big arse to be put in here thank you jace!!)

Finding a gearbox which is OK... is getting harder as the cars get older...
Having repairs done to a gearbox can be costly....
its costly just to have one pulled apart.....
but I suppose We will all be in the same position sometime in the future....

I have always added a gearbox additive to all My vehicles over the years....
I have been using NULON in the past few cars....
but I think they only work with good gearboxes....
once they are worn.... I think it may be too late...
although I like the additives with Molyd....... disulfate in it..
anyway its one of those long words no one can spell...
similar to the Lithium based Moly grease...
it stops things from wearing out....

I have had so many reasons to regret throwin' my 1300 gearbox away... if only u requested 6 months ago...

the gearbox needs to be picked up this weekend karmen.
I go home on tuesday so i won't be able to fit it for her before valla otherwise.
I'm guessing with it having a rusty old floorpan its been sitting around for a while, if thats the case i wouldn't be putting it in her car anyways. waste of time

argh men...its about the car guys...not whos better looking in the passenger seat!

okay...today i kidnapp jace (manx xtc) and we go in search of a gearbox...

for gear box alone we're looking at about $100-200 dollars (jace says it better be decent)....for a project to wreck $200 to $400 (maybe little more) depending on what it is and what else we can use from it...and we're looking around brissy first .....with an approx drive of hopefully no more than and hour in any direction.

If u know of something, or have something urself...please call me on 0422 600 947 or send an sms with details...

and don't worry....those who have sms i have ur numbers with me...and will contact u, if i havent already. we're just gunna try those close to home first.

Found a box at a great price...from a great bloke called JohnnyB who is only 10 minutes away. I love to visit him (second time) He lets me browse, pat some horsies, chase the baby :P. And check out the car or two he has down the back for bits I need.

Jace, Big A and I went to visit, and came home with a box for Blue Belle. Cleaned it up, and its ready for tomorrow. And I also scored and original steering wheel (and nut so it doesnt slip off round those bends......(inside joke)) which I can get pearlised (WOOHOOO) Jace scored a ride round the tracks when Johnny is out doing a run

So hopefully Blue Belle is on the road again by end of weekend. YEAH!!!!!

And I made a new VW friend called Trev, which is always a bonus isnt it. Never too many vw friends 9necessary when u break down 😉)
