Hi, I have a beetle body with a body Tag that states, Chassis no 37378. It has VOLSWAGEN (AUSTRALASIA) PTY LTD and also includes weight and type11. The body also has a stamped tag above the brake fluid res with 23903 stamped, I am unable to find a matching no to date the vehicle. Is there an Australian made registry, Thank you

Further to this I forgot to mention I do not have the pan only the body, these details are on the body tag, and the stamped body tag mentioned is in fact under the brake res not above. Thanks
what date is stamped on the back of the speedo, this usually can give an indication of how old as long as its the original one👍

Thanks guys, problem is I have no speedo etc only a bare shell. Also I have checked the samba site along with a lot of others and none of the numbers correspond, as there is no Vin number etc. I have other beetles all with the German tags, this one is Australian or Australasian, and I cant find corresponding numbers Cheers

Does it have an Oval or Big rear window thats a start
Does it have semiphores in the door pillars....
Does it have rear seat belt mount points in the rear near the window
The body number stamped on the brake fluid area means nothing
Do you have a pic

Thanks Dave, The body is between 58 to 64, fuel tap reserve, no semaphores, no seat belt mounts, I am just trying to verify but the Australasian tag has me stumped, never seen one before? Thanks Mike

The body is between 58 to 64, fuel tap reserve, no semaphores, no seat belt mounts,
Ok so no semaphores then its after 61 to 63 and if its has the fuel tap it could be a Standard body shell does it have a glovebox lid ?? or fuel gauge, are the door light switches cut out to accept the switch in the door pillar
Australasian tags were fitted to the cars then

Late 1960 had no semaphores...
no seat belt mount holes.....
no towel rail bumper holes....
no fuel gauge....
I've never come across any Australian VW Numbers...
and Australasian was a word used back then to include the sourrounding areas like New Zealand and Maybe Papua New Guinea.... and probably a few islands....
seems strange as VW in New Zealand used to assembly their own beetles maybe from VW AUstralasia parts... CKD kits..??
If VW Australasia had a number code to show when they were made etc... well they kept it to themselves....
Country Buggies had their own special numbers...
but I've never see any info on aussie Beetles numbers....
Best of Luck

It probably has the square hole for a fuel gauge as these were stamped out in all beetles from 1962 and even in the 68-69 Beetle... the hole was still there....
Does Your ID badge have a chassis number on it??
