Hears the problem, my 1600 has a real bad flat spot under acceleration, as it's in a buggy, and I didn't build it, there may be things done that I don't know about. I am thinking of fitting twin Kadrons (as advised by a mechanic who seems to have a good rep. with VW's). Not real interested in getting more top speed, but a bit of extra go off the mark wouldn't hurt, as I am a real novice with this sorta thing what do yooz reckon?

go the kadrons, they are awesome, you will love them!!

I wouldn't spend $700-odd on fitting twin carbs without first finding out what's causing the flat spot.
What carby and dizzy are on the motor ATM?
When was the timing and tune-up last done?
Find out the problem before trying to fix it.

Ok what I am about to say is what happened to me and how I fixed the flat spot in 1600tp with a 009 IMHO.
Which is a BAJA which I use on the beach ,off road and at 4WD parks so it is used quite hard times off road.
After checking and adjusting the timing, points , plugs, setting the air flow and the mixture screws the flat spot was still there the only thing I had not played with was the throttle pump on the carbie so I checked it and it was set up about 1/3 of the way.
This was how it was set up when I got the carbie and before I put a kit throught it.I just set it back to where it was before I started the rebuild .
So little bit by little bit I adjusted it leaner and test drive for 1 day and slowly the flat spot got less and less until now with no flat spot and it gets of the mark real good and when I put my foot down to get a more on in traffic it picks up very good.
I hope this helps

BUT no good for off-road work (in BUggy) due to fuel bowl sloshing etc
and yeah, fix the problem first

Try driving up really rough hills. That was the reason i went EFI on my 1916...offroad rough stuff was crap with Kadrons&Webbers and any other carb.

Weeell, thanks heaps blokes, looks like I may have to look a bit harder, BTW, my buggy is not an off roader, built for show but thats how I like it.

If it's on-road, go for Kads. No problem. Great carbs

yep go the kads :thumb
i have them on my split they are great and you don't have to tune them all the time unlike most other twin setups.

yeah, got pics but bugered if I can work out how to put em here, any advice? It's not just mechanicals that stump me!

Email them to me at mjhutchinson@netspace.net.au and i'll reduce the size and post them if you want. When you hit the "post reply" button, below the reply box where you type your message is an attachment box with a browse button. If you click the browse button it opens a window in your computer and you search for the picture you want and double click on it.Then hit the "post reply" button and you're in!! Pictures are supposed to be less than 50 kb or lately I've heard 100kb to be able to post them.HTH.If you do a search for picture posting there should be heaps of info.

So what your saying is you reduced the amount of fuel that was being sprayed by the pump? Can the fuel pump temorarily flood the engine ?
Or have I totally missunderstood what your saying?
Cheers

OK, dumb question number one brazilian, if I get the original single carb tuned correctly (its sitting on a shortened inlet to get it in under the body) or if I fit the twin kads, what will be the improvement one over the other?
Midlife crisis ·
yep that's it.
I should have said that. :-)

Donn,
If the carb you have at the moment is not the problem, changing to another carb(s) won't fix the problem.
In saying that, there is an inherant problem with a single carb and the 009 dizzy that results in flat spots. Is that what you have, or some other sort of dizzy or carb?
Simply putting on twin Kads won't necessarily fix whatever is causing the problem.
