Any type you can find as long as you have enough money to purchase one and fit it.

The Berg 5 speed is probally the best but there costly and dont think there made any more

Talk to Vintage they might have one available 02-9789-1777

Jake Raby at air cooled technology in the states makes gearboxes for different HP levels. I think they are only 4 speed though but check it out at http://www.aircooledtechnology.com/store/home.php
I am thinking about getting one for my ghia when I do the DTM conversion on a type 2 engine.
Yogie.

Mate is doing a Porsche 915?? box at the moments.

LOTS of fabrication and lots of $$$

It was a weapon before - gonna be WILD after this latest series of changes.

porsche 901 5spd not stronger than beetle .
porsche 915 5spd can handle 250hp std up 500hp modded 2nd hand $2500 to $3500 still better than some quotes I had on beetle boxes .
porsche G50 4spd 930 turbo stretch those legs $$$$$$$$
porsche G50 5spd $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
porsche 914 5spd needs diff rotated.
but then you need to consider the shifter to buy and adapter.
The best gears for gearboxes are made here in oz .
main problem using these boxes is clearencing the torsion beem area and cost .
