I am also selling my house and moving to the sunshine coast in Qld. so I hope to meet up with some Queensland buggers. That's all from me........bye for now. 馃槑

68AutoBug 路

Well Kombi Kim, You will have to make sure You go to Nambucca heads on the 1st weekend in August for the BIGGEST VW Spectacular YOU have ever seen... Its AWESOME.. Imagine a Main street of a town just FULL of Volkswagens for over an Hour , on a Saturday Morning. If You thought the Nationals were great (and I'm NOT knocking the yearly VW Nationals event) the Nambucca - Valla Park - VW Spectacular is -"different-" a weekend or 3 or 4 day venue in a small town is just "UNREAL"- there are VWs EVERYWHERE You Look... Most People make it a FAMILY weekend or more ... I'm going up on Friday and coming home Monday... Hopefully in My "NEWLY" Restored 68AutoBug .. It JUST HAS to be Finished by then.... and registered...

Great day met a few VDFPs. Really great show i walked around and around and around suddenly realised that 4 hours had dissapeared and i still wanted another round.
Congratulations to Dave and all those others involved .
Great turn out for a poor weather day great venue especially for that reason.
The thought that had gone into the kids was fantasic I will bring the gromets next year ,those kids painting the bugs were having a ball.
That for sale 13 window just inside the car park gate (and a couple of others parked in there) should have been inside. Any one know what sort of money for that thing? I can only dream.

Hi Dave,
Did You count My Son Scott & Myself & 56blackoval & Alex from Toowoomba?
Silver was there (somewhere) ...
I must confess that I didn't actually look at all the VWs displayed. I was busy what I do best... talking... and buying parts for My 68Autobug. Oh! and Dave, I DID buy some parts from VVDS stand...
See You all at Nambucca for the VW Spectacular in August.. :thumb馃榾:o:thumb:bounce:bounce:bounce:bounce

Dave do Club VD mebers get free entry to the Nats ? I was wondering cause it might work well (or it might not) for you guys to package the two so that at the gate you may attract more memberships as people are forking out they might dig a little deeper and spring for membershipp as well. Just a thought.
BTW I think the $10 is pretty good value.

Excellent day guys馃檪

So good to meet up with some of you

Adz where were you? Asking people if you were there. We were probably passing each other and didn't know it.

Jay and Amazer thought that they had lost me only because I didn't know about the 1st turbo circuit of the swap stalls. Somehow I got staight into looking closely at stuff for sale

Due to the lack of sleep the night before I kept moving all day, didn't want to crash:sandrine

toybug was very pleased with the vent windows I got for his kombi's front doors:thumb

Took lots of pics, now have to have them put on disc. Some very nice Vee Dubbs there馃槑

Congrats to the winners of trophies, so much work had gone into the cars

So glad I made it up to Sydney if only for the day

OvalGlen 路

I was so busy trying to catch up with all I knew and meet those from this forum that I missed some of the good cars, Glad that some of the pics on this forum showed me.
It was a great day, for me more the people , the cars were excellent.
There were exceptional ones, like Leigh's car , very inspirational, the V8 LPG stretch Bus "just a tow car for the drag Bug ".
got to hear my favourite sound - Roaring supercharged VW motor.
-
My children had great fun " face painting, model making , colouring , jumping castle " which left more time for me to talk...Great.

OvalGlen 路

Adam , I would have liked to chat with you too.
The guys in swap meet were Aussie Black Bug and either Flying VW or Bugboy.
the cool dudes the boozed me up Sat night.............馃榾

jenz58 路

Hey Adz馃檪

Apparently Jay and Amazer got worried about me there at one stage when we got seperated. Somehow lost sight of each other. Mind you Jay and I were half asleep and in automatic mode. We did intend to power nap on the plane but forgot and talked all the way.

I was in black jeans and denim jacket or lacy top (depending on what time of day, it got warm) Had two bags (one daypack, 1 duffle bag) and one camera over my shoulders.

Lost my name tag about 5 times during the day and had to keep retracing my steps to find it:jesus

Mmm, a ladyfriend hey馃槑

Was at both meetings up of the AussieVeeDubbers

Hi

Thanks to everyone who attended, VW shows would not happen without VW people building cars and turning up to VW shows. VW owners are mostly fantastic people, unlike fans of some other car makes.

Nice to meet you bugboymatt, in case anyone didn't hear bugboymatt has bought a bug with a reputation, its Adam "Hamo" Hamiltons old 1500 bug.

It was great meeting everyone, I was busy every time a meeting was called. Hopefully we can get together at Nambucca. The thing I like about Nambucca is that I don't have to worry about anything other than having a good time, anyone who has anything to do with organising a VW show would share my sentiments.

I'm uploading photos now to the Club VeeDub site, I fell asleep at the keyboard Sunday night, I was up at 5 am Sunday after getting home at midnight Saturday night. I still have a heap more photos to load in the next few days so keep checking back.

I dont know what can be done about all the good cars in the car park, its a problem at all VW shows.

David, I didn't enter my car because I didn't have time to prepare it properly.

An excellent day! To everyone involved thankyou very much! Sorry I missed the catch up with everyone.....didn't get there until about 11.00.

The 13 window split was going for $21k, and the red Ghia, whilst he had $12k on it, I was chatting to him and he said he would have taken $10.5k.

Great to see some old faces knocking around - and the venue itself is great!

Also thanks to James, Patrick and Richard H for helping fix my sparkless Cab in the afternoon as I was about to leave. Yes - I was the poor sucker near the toilet in the red cab with people clambering over it to get it started! Problem is solved - ignition earthing problem.

See you all at Nambucca - hopefully this time I'll make it in time to meet everyone!

This year was excellent so many entries, so many cars and plenty of swappers .. Had a really great time and it was good to meet so many of you on the forum. However .. as a Notch owner I get the shits ... It seems that the white Fastback that I believe has never really let the showroom .. So to speak allways wins. Now dont get me wrong I'm not saying that my Notch is better because it's not .. I just have fun showing it off .. However the white Fasty wins every year and every other show. I just think that some one should have a word in the gentlemens ear and tell him to sit it out next year and sure show off the car but dont enter it in the comp. Being that this car wins every time it is not much of an incentive to enter my Notch. I think next time I'll just show it and stick the $10 entry fee into parts!

Anyhow I've had my whinge!! I'll get over it!

Cya at the next one!

vw54 路

Yeah we had this conversation before Stex...

I used to have to do the same thing with my other car when certain other cars arrived...

10 bucks at the swap can get u some good stuff.

Dont know why he bothers some times ... he must have won every show n category over the past 10 years...

i wanna win some with my Sea Blue ,,, ( after 15 years work) then i will retire it ,,, bit of fun bit of inspiration...
trophies are made for all the people... thats why we limit the entry to 3 cats at the nats...

Stops one car from taking home a shit load.. n shares them out to more people. The max you could win would be 4

BenettonVW 路

I'm with you Strex. I mean, this was the one thing that let my w'end down, and I thought it might have been just me..

I entered the Hotty Notch, and out of the 6 or 7 Type 3's entered, I couldn't pull first second or third, yet everyone I talked to said it was the best thing they had seen in ages. I wouldn't generally go that far, but it has a lot more character than some of the others, and it also has original paint and interior.. in fact virtually everything is original apart from the ride height 馃榾
I am far from a sore loser or anything like that and anyone that knows me will know that this is not what I go to shows for in the first place, but it was both confusing and annoying.. I don't expect any answers or explanations, I am just venting.. Thanks for listening! :P

twoguns 路

to strex and beneton...

in the harley scene your bike only gets one win at that show. ie you can enter at the bankstown show every year, but can only win it once. the idea is so that the show bikes with hugh money cant continue to clean up and therefor encourage others. i think the vw scene should look at this idea. so if you get someone that spends $50k on his beetle. he will get to clean up at every show in that year once. then he either has to change the asthetics or build another to win again. this way it gives every one a chance to win and brings excitement back into the show as you don't know what to expect in the winners circle each year. it also cures the trailer queen aspect, where some of these cars only come out just to win....

SKEWtYpe3 路

the same thing happens down in Vic.
THis white fasty....was he a club member, close friend of the judges, helped organise the event or just a old time VW person that is admired by the vw event ppl?
All of the above will win u the same trophy every year down here. It sucks and asks me why anyone else bothers ! there is always a token 'outsider' that will win something though so it looks correct....
i dont care bcos my car is for me and if u dont like it stuff ya but an example if i remember correctly at our last Bug in(i think) a NB standard nothing special WON best car of the show. What about giving it to a person that restored and put a heap of effort into their car to encourage them more.
I've only been into dubs a few years but all i hear and feel is the shows are rigged and the same ppl win all the time, and it seems its not only in Vic this happens !
anyway my 2c. been hearing this alot recently !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

o yeah agree with u 2guns

speedster356 路

I found that the showing of the car and all that is expected prior to showing (polishing etc) was a bit of a bore. I really did enjoy the cruzin to and from both shows much more.......:thumb

Kafer Lover 路

I'm not sure that I agree totally with all the sentiment here.
While I definately agree that it is good for the entrants, general public and vw scene in general to have new cars winning the trophies rather than the same cars year in year out, those that win should do so because they deserve it. Of course they should not win because they happen to be whoever they are or know whoever they know ( I wouldn't have a clue if this is happening or not).
Those that win should be the best. The best of show, or whatever catagory, should be awarded to the best in show. If it happens to be the same car as last year, all that means is that no one has built a better car yet. It should encourage us to strive further, do better, not whinge that such and such got it again.
If a car was only allowed to win at that show once in its life, then how does the person who wins know they won because they were the best and not because they were the best, except for this one, that one and the other one that have won it before. They won't know how they compare to the others unless they were competing against the others.
Sure some cars never get out except to go and compete at the shows, thats what their owners chose to do to keep them in pristine condition. Not all of us are lucky enough to have spare cars to do this with (although most of us have a project or few taking up the space in the driveway馃檨), but lets not criticise those who chose this route, its their choice. Personally I like to see cars driven, but thats my choice. Maybe there should be a separate cartagory for show-only vehicles? Who knows, maybe a catagory for driven vehicles, even if not daily drivers but maybe that have covered a certain number of kms that year, or gone to a certain number of events.
That might be a bit troublesome to police, but the main point of this prattle, is lets not get down about Joe Bloggs winning again, lets just try and beat them next year.
As I said at the beginning, it would be good to see new cars winning the trophies, but it should be because the cars are better.
Restricting number of catagories at one event is good.
My 2 cents. 馃檪

yeah i am whinning abit but it looks like all of us want MORE vw around and restored etc but arent willing to do the encouraging. Howdy all. Finally back home from the Outlaws where we have been staying for the past couple of weeks. No net time there! They have 16 hours for the month and 30 minutes of me checking the emails once a week used up all my brownie points.

Was great catching up with you all. Looked for forum people in the morning and cars in the afternoon. Sold a few stickers and caught up with old and new faces. The Dog-O-War nearly didn't make it as it went over a dune cliff the lunchtime before. Will attach some pics when I get / find some.

I loved the sound off between a few of the bugs here and there topped off by the Drag bug. Love the smell of Nitromethane scolding the nostrils and eyes and blasting all serenity from the shed.

Seems I didn't catch up with everyone. I would have liked to have stayed for the presentations but needed to get back to Newcastle before dark. Thanks to BLK56 for leapfroging me along the Freeway and apologies to OvalGlen for me running out on him.

Got to catch up with Mark who isn't a forum member (I think) but own the sweet Twincab that I spotted in Dubbo a few weeks back. Recognised it immeadiately and have hopefully made a Dubbo contact as there arn't many flat fours out here of the German variety.

Cheers all. Thanks for the great day.

Spend big win big! theres is merit to exempting winners, The car show should be the winner....... Winners could be put into an exhibit the next year titled "Winners"
also the points scored for each car to be posted, so people could see how they went,We want people back next year, incentives will work ..........

Hi

I agree, the best car should win otherwise no one will ever aspire to have the best car, just look at how the VW scene has progressed over the years. I remember when VW shows were once held in parks (oops sorry some still are), the quality of VWs at shows continues to improve every year.

The Type 3 in question is owned by a nice old fellow from Flat 4, another Sydney club, so no bias there.

We try to get different volunteer judges every year, with reps from all the different VW clubs. But we can always use new volunteers next year. Anyone?

Not sure what was up with the sound system this year. Just a normal radio mike box plugged straight into the ground PA; worked fine last year. This year the system fed back every time we tried walking around with the radio mike. Even when turning everything right down; almost no gain at all. I watched the levels as Dave walked around and suddenly it would spike.

We used the club's little PA and speakers for the trophy presentation, which I think worked much better.

strex 路

Gees I've really opened a can of worms here .. But Im' glad it got aired... Phil I was only thinking the other day that I should volunteer as a judge so I know what to look for and I can give a non infulenced aprasial .. Put me down for the next one.
