a TRIBUTE to TOFU

VWFOOL ·

man this guy is one of the nicest ppl u will meet yet inside he has the heart of a warrior.
he drives the crazy 12hr journey in his Oval from melbourne to sydney, gets to my place, tired as hell but still manages to mix it up with my strange friends over some home made mexican, in the meantime buys my gf and i a bottle of red for letting him stay the night, then battles on for another day thru rain and wind all the way to valla, brings along a spare CB radio so we can chat all the way there, finds himself a place to stay in a cabin and spends the rest of the weekend in high spirits despite the poor weather. sunday arvo he drives home from valla, alone, in the rain in a oval, finds himself a motel, sleeps the night then does the final leg to melbourne the next day, getting home at 7pm with a smile on his face, then gets up the next day and goes to the snow.
so hears to u tofu, was great to meet u finally in person.

sam

VWFOOL ·

btw, thanks for the ride in the tofu, thats one awesome car.

oval TOFU ·

ah Sam... you can't emicon this massive smile you just put on my face mate...
I can't thank you enough for your hospitality and patience when I dissapear from your rearview mirror in the guts of Sydney. You know my door is open to you whenever you decide to come south...

It was an absolute highlight to finally meet you...

Chris

Chris,
Heard the story of your "journey" to valla.
Some ppl here like you came a long way to be get there.
Appreciate you determination in coming, sad you had to do this alone,...but so glad you came & hopefully you enjoyed yourself.
I have never meet you but read quite a few posts you have written here....I am now sorry I never got the chance to meet you in person as I enjoy catching up with a true diehard vw fan & I missed that opportunity with you....
Next time let us know you are doing the trip again & I am sure some of us will be with you either in person or in spirit & well wishes....
Hope to catch up with you eventually at a vw show somewhere soon....respect to you my fellow vw soulmate.

nice sentiment and gorgeous car. love it.

lohoon ·

Yeah, very nice Dude.
He even stopped to offer assistance when we were on the side of the road, when he had a lot of travelling in front of him.
Cheers Mate.

few more memories

one of the most beautiful sunset/cloud formations ive ever seen
"like a kleenex box..."

Dasdubber ·

Yep I agree - although I only had a chance to chat briefly with you, Chris you seemed like a top bloke and congrats for making the long haul to and from valla!

Hertz ·

Mammoth effort, Chris. Well done. You should come on the Bendigo cruise in a couple of weeks. The more slammed dubs the better and Rhetts party will be all that much better with a hardcore mofo such as yourself.

blutopless2 ·

we cruised with chris on the way from melb.... got a bit worried a few times about how his drafting was going... looked in the mirror and couldn't tell where my oval finished and his started!! lol
was fun cruising as a group tho.

BenettonVW ·

Well done, nice job. I have made that drive before, and it isn't easy. Cars look good too!!

Whose 54 is that Sam? That is just about the exact colour I've been trying to hunt down. Tofu's looking fine too Chris, top work!

hahahaha.. dam that was a gorgeous sunset... It was so nostalgic cruising up in two 54's... Can't wait to see those sunset shots we took on the side of the road and at the abandoned pertrol station..

Thanks for all the kind words, I'm really very touched.. I'm not used to this kind of attention :kiss

There were other Melb ppl that made the long trek too, so we can't forget thier efforts too..

ByronBug: Although I met quite a few people on the weekend, it felt like only a fraction of everyone I could've met... I wasn't along all the way, I had the company of Rod (shivering) in his oval, Trace (drenched) in her NB cab and Kate (80's music) in her Cyber Green NB.. then of course, I was in the fine company of Sam and his gf to Valla. It was only on the way back I was in the sole company of my iRiver...

Rod: Sorry if i freaked you out with my drafting, I just wasn't bothered with braking when you slowed down a bit...hehe. I think i should just stick to semi's coz they can't see me, so they're less likely to freak. I know, I know, drafting is probably a bad practice... but when you do it for a couple hours on end, you save quite a bit of fuel!

VWFOOL ·

PrettyBlueBug ·

Christofu definitely is a wicked guy. It's rare that cool online people are actually cool in RL! :P

Sounds like everyone had some good Valla adventures, I wish PBB could have made the journey.
Well, there's always next year... then Christofu won't have to trek solo in Tofu!
