And my normally aspirated version with 2715cc, but still with mechanical injection.
This time with 56mm throttle butterflies.

Awsome looking motor.

Is that an electric cooling fan? If so how does it keep the motor cool?

dangerous ·

Only runs for 5 or 10 minutes for tight motorkana style sprints. .

tassupervee ·

Dave
I see you still use a dizzie.

Dizzy sends the sparks to the plugs.
All stock VW electronic...what would you suggest?

Ahh.... Dave, it wasnt meant to sound a smart-arsed question.
Perhaps the rules you race under force you to use a distributer hence my interest and question.
Rules in F-Vee preculde the use of decent ignition systems. mebbe the same for you.
Clobber like yours requires serious ignition and the weakest link in the ignition chain is a distributer/rotor button/dizzy cap assy to start with.
With all those extra air gaps and potential for crossfiring and blah

What to use?
Crank angle triggers, a pair of dual output coils(wasted spark) A simple programmeable CDI. Bulletproof and a spark strong enough to cause a heart attack.
Add some fixed gap surface discharge plugs for reliability.
All relatively cheap, generic and reliable.
Check out the CAS looking at the right hand cam pulley in the pix below.

IMHO of course.

I didn't think you were trying to be a smart ar*e.

But I can see how you might have thought that by my response.

Some times it is hard to get the right words across.
Would love to hear some specific recommendations if you can(see other post).
Regards DB.

tassupervee ·

Ahh K m8 sry then.
I kinda included that bit just in case!!
Ur right about written text as it does not convey a subtly raised eyebrow or a particular inflection in the voice that in Aussie vernacular is often the difference between a compliment and a downright diss!
Im having a think about that other post as we speak.

94 bore with 84 stroke is 2331.77cc Brennden!

"I once caught a fish T-H-A-T big!"🙄

Likewise 94 bore with 69 stroke is 1915.38cc.
That fellow must be building strokers at 1916.

Pay attention in maths class people😬!!
😘😂

mactaylor ·

dave i got 2331.76 what is your pi calc mine is 3.14159 another way that works ok is say 94X94X84X.7854 X4 = 2331.77 remembering to move the decimal to the correct place we use this method to work out tank volumes in your head its pretty close so good enough for us.

westi ·

whats a couple of cc's here or there,so it's closer to 2.3L than 2.4L.lol.
i get it.mines a 2.4 or close enough for me.
i came up with this solution after taking to heaps of customer's about my car.they always say what size is the engine.i used to say it is 2386 or 2387 depends on how you do your cal'cs.there response.WHAT THE.So what size is yourengine.
my response know is it's basically it's a 2.4L.i think it's easier if you know what i mean.👍

hellbugged ·

yep, they think mine is over 200 years old when told "1776"

westi ·

it's fun hey ,as vw heads we all seem to know exactly what it is.

Newt ·

Whats the go with the electric cooling fans?

And my Mitsubishi V6 is 3497cc yet they call it a 3500cc......go figure 🤪

There is actually a reason Stan called his combo a 1916, thats because he knew everyone else would call theirs 1915's 😂😂
Pay attention in marketing class people 😬 😂

dangerous ·

I was not aware that Stan was building engines that size.

Back in the eighties he told me he was using 22/7 for pi.😁

How could you Craig?!
A Mitsubishi!?

(actually pretty well engineered)

Sorry to hijack your thread H-aich

whats the dollar values on these engines?

too much

Pauld wrote:whats the dollar values on these engines?
Yeah, too much. If I spent what I have on my 2165 a 360 mopar motor I could be well over 500hp.
Lots.

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·

Pauld wrote:whats the dollar values on these engines?
At a rough guess I'd say Troy's 2332 EFI turbo set up would be over 30k easy.

Could build a mega HP engine for that but it wouldn't be the unique thing he has now.

manx with Delco management.

Question? why does that^ have 2 sets of injectors?

matberry ·

^^ because it makes plenty power 😂😂

vlad01 ·

matberry wrote:^^ because it makes plenty power 😂😂
that makes no logical sense.

you could have a single injector for the whole engine that would drown it with the choices of injectors these days.

matberry ·

Yeah, and with long runners performance would be average. I know I have considered a very similar set up for a hi po engine build. Lo speed the manifold injectors run, as power and load increases the second injectors come on. Way better fuel control with improved atomisation

matberry ·

The second injectors were over-the-top like F1

vlad01 ·

still doesn't make much sense to do so.

So many different injectors these days and the late Bosch (mid 90s) EV6 and now (05) EV14 injectors have crazy atomization with 4, 6 and 12 hole designs. Then you have all the Siemens Deka, Lucas etc...

having 2 injectors like that is like trying to invent the square wheel imho. 🤪
