Do they pull or push??? Whats the cost like?

MickH ·

why bother???? If it aint broke why fix it??:alien

Volkswagenboy ·

That's true Mick, I'd like to see the pros and cons.
Bet the pros don't add up to the $$$'s.

With my set up, 6 x throttle bodies and a linkage at the injector pump, all up 9 return springs including the 2 safetys, the standard VW throttle assembly cant cope with the load. Bends at the foot control. This might be an option for me.

on the other hand, hydraulic wise ur looking at worrying about leaks, topping up fluid, spose even seals buggering up, and well... yeah. (depends how well maintained and installed it is)

throttle response i would assume would be equivalent, failure rate with hydraulic... well, depends what applications... is there any particular common cars people know of that use hydraulic throttles as standard?

spose it makes the sound fast in words 😀, just knowing ur going hydraulic rather than cable 😉

Grey57, I must say in your case it would be useful.
Well when you think about it, if you were to go hyd clutch why not match it with hyd throttle?

I,ve removed all of the inner tubes in the pan so it might be a better fit with the mods I,m doing. Or I was going to look at electronic throttle control.grey 57 you might be better to look at the Tilton pedal box $880 which I,ve budgeted for .

blutopless2 ·

why not go "fly-by-wire" and use servo motors to drive the throttle?

malcolm ·

blutopless2 have any info or pics
Just rememdered my wifes car throttle is electronic.

Grey 57 ·

Yeah I was thinking fly by wire too.

helbus ·

I would think hydraulic would be very reliable and pretty much never need repair or topping up. As fluid in hydraulic systems is self lubricating, you would just have to maybe change the fluid when you change your brake fluid.

They wouldn't use hydraulic on brakes if it wasn't reliable. 👍

good point Peter.

haven't got any info or pics as it was just a thought.
i am currently doing a subject at school where we control a servo motor with a computer chip, just have to program it correctly - learning that too.
all you would need is a potentiometer under the accelerator feeding the chip input and the output goes to the servo motor... you can buy different types of servos with varying torque/speed ratings etc. depending upon what you want to drive with them.
servos are controlled using pulse width modulation.
I would imagine that most new cars would operate a "fly by wire" throttle set up.
