i love it and totally agree馃憤

in perth now we can get gas conversions for FREEEEE.

fed government = 2000
state gov = 1000
gas conversion = roughly 2500.

and we can double up on bonuses.

if i had a running car i would get it done/.

arent we lucky

MISS VDUB 路

Sure you might be able to get the conversion subsidised, but you're not guaranteed it as the demand for the conversion is greatly outweighing the supplies available

So has anyone actually converted any VWs for gas?

megalania 路

A while ago I read on another forum about a guy who converted his bug to gas and mounted the gas tank behind the rear seat in the luggage area!!! scary

toecutter 路

Good to see in the rear section of the picture that they are thinking about rat rides etc etc with a matt black version.:thumb

station wagons have'm behind the rear seat and it's ok. it's quite safe. besides, most sedan boots aren't sealed off from the interior of the car anyway so it's all the same.

Just until the GOV decide to excise the crap out of it!!!!

penguin 路

So no beetles done?

sinecure 路

I thought gas was problematic for air-coolers, something about the intake charge making them too cold internally.

baybuscamperkid 路

lol, nice one!

megalania 路

I found a site in the UK that sells the tanks and does the conversion. I think the spare wheel size tank is a good idea.

http://www.gasure.co.uk/lpg.htm

and a thread from the samba

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=178587&highlight=lpg

going by what I have seen it is do-able. Just don't know the costs involved yet.

megalania 路

I haven't heard of any bio-diesel conversions for air cooled dubs yet, in England yes but Australia no. Does anyone know anyone who sells the kits and price etc?

You mean like what Filmore runs on?
Organic fuel...
LOL

ColumBUS 路

yes, bio diesel is made from oil waste, canola... basically used grease from deep fryers is ur best source.

its cheap, reliable, and clean. well, the burning of it is clean, but making it is purely disgusting

MickH 路

Use cooking oil. Just put it in your tank, max 40% and the rest normal diesel.Job done. They recommend using 20% at first to see if the car runs OK.The problem is cold starting as it is hard to get through the injectors when cold which is why you dilute it. No other mods required. We put 20 liters of new cooking oil in my brother in-laws cruiser as it was on special for 99 cents a liter and 30 liters of normal diesel.Ran beautiful and smelt like a fish and chip shop.No problems at all. brother in law was impressed with how smooth it ran...some of the farmers gave him crap about the smell.......:P It is a 2004 model turbo diesel Toyota cruiser.

who/where have you heard doing that in the UK?

bajachris88 路

i can honestly recall a T3 running on biodiesel, and hearing of a bug mentioned on avd (through the last 12 to 18 months) running on gas. Dunno who or where, but it does ring a bell.

I have heard it to about biodiesel over in UK, growing thing. will keep an eye out if i nut it out and am able to remember, or run into it on net, but i sware i heard it.

MISS VDUB 路

My dad ran Bio-diesel in his Mitsubishi Fuso mini coach he bought when he drove to NSW and back. Ran Bio-diesel all the way there and back. Carried a trailor and tank on the back to fill up as they go. Absolutely no problems and ran like a dream! I'm sure they would have had Seagulls following them across the Nullabor. Smelt Yummy!

Anyone? really curious about this.

The links above from megalania have the costs in the UK...assuming the T2 aircooled would be the same kit as the motors are the same. The link below has pictures of a guy who's done his 412 overseas...looks good and am considering it for my 411.

I read about it on either the Volkszone forums or the shoptalkforums. I even read you can get a electric conversion for aircooled engines. Are we that far behind the rest of the world?

Ich fahre ein Kdf ein Tag 路

Now thats an idea... CrewCab's Fish and Chips straight out of a Dub near you!!馃お

pete wood 路

um, how do you run bio diesel in a petrol engine?

megalania 路

you don't. Maybe have to stick a T25 donk or golf diesel into the car for it to be an option

pete wood 路

ok

Moosette 路

Very funny........lol

bajachris88 路

south america now has 100% ethanol available at the fuel stations now.

baybuscamperkid 路

i thought it was 90% or 95%

bajachris88 路

wait, yeah would have to be somehting like that, the left over percentage being methanol to prevent people boozing up on it... (90 somehtin % ethanol and rest methanol is the same mix as a bottle or metho)

penguin 路

Okay
so its a Golf (or similar) engine conversion for biodeisel, thats what I was after.
I know how to make the stuff, was just wondering how people could convert a Dub engine for it.
Obviously not possible without a complete engine conversion to a factory deisel engine but was curious as to how it had been done overseas.
