When I worked on international trunks 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the PMG in Melbourne in the 1960s we used to work 7 nights on, 2 days off, 7 nights on and 5 days off. I got a 5 day long weekend every 3 weeks. It was great.

On one days off two of us travelled from Melb. to the Snowy Mts. and back, via the coast in a bright red splitty kombi. Those were the days.

That was the time when I heard the music of the spheres during a waking dream on the beach at Malacoota.

PS I was not chemically modified by green vegetable matter at the time. LOL.

56astro ·

2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off.

I love shift work and would hate to go back to Mon-Fri. When all the kids are at school it will be like being semi-retired.
😂

56astro it is ,it is :thumb

malcolm ·

blutopless2 did you work at the old Hoechst site.

blutopless2 ·

no... have worked at Resins site during one of the shutdowns a few years ago (for about 4 weeks) but never on a permanent basis... my brother used to work there as an Instrument Technician on one of the shifts many years ago.
i did my two apprenticeships at the Elastomers site and then transferred to plastics in 1998/9.
Am an Instrument Electrical Tech.

When I first started work used to do 1 week nights, 1 week evenings, 1 week days, then work 2 12 hr shifts after the dayshift, to then get a rostered week off, and come back on the Monday week for nights. It was amazing how much holidays I saved. I loved it. Evenings was my favourite - home by 1.....up at 8.....off to the beach all day....be at work for 4 - 12....summer was bliss.

malcolm ·
