When everyone else had 95, i bought my Win3.1. When 98 came out, I went to 3.11 and didnt see a difference. When everyone had Win2k, I got 98. When everyone went to XP, I got 2000. Today, just because my norton has pissed me off one too many times, I bought XP pro... but SP1. Going to do a full format, start over again.
What kind of nasty tricks is this going to throw at me when I install? Do I have to have SATA drivers on hand (like I needed with 2K) or will XP have them?

Yeah, you can download. When it came out everything I read said not to bother. I'm not bothered, I'll be happy to get rid of all the uni crap off my computer, especially Oracle which I reckon quadrupled the boot up time.
To go to current spec would be tempting fate :P

I bit the bullet. 10GB of crap I had to back up!
I've got XP installed. it DID give me hassles with the SATA drivers. The ones I downloaded from Gigabyte's website didnt work (???) but eventually I found the disk that came with the motherboard and all went well.
so far.
Still need to get the sound going, ADSL going, but I'm assuming I shouldnt have too much hassle with those. Didnt feel like starting that at 11pm.

ADSL eh, so how did you post that? :P

that was easy. posted during business hours, I was at work.
latest update is that I am going to start over again. I've got everything working.. but there are errors at startup.
First it was telling me that NTLDR was missing, sorted that, now it says something wrong with boot.ini. It still boots fine, but with the error. It may have something to do with the SATA HD. For whatever reason it has named it D: and the other IDE hard drive that I use for backing up as C: Maybe it doesnt like booting from a D: drive. So I will disconnect the drive and install again, see what happens.
