Can someone tell me how do I need to wire an engine to start it outside the car? I have it bolted to a flywheel/starter kit. Do I just need a positive and a negative to the coil?
Thanks
Raf

You just need a positive to the coil, the neg on the coil goes to the dizzy as usual.

if the motor is worth anything, it should already have good oil pressure ! hehehehehe:P

Thanks
Its a 356 engine that has been sitting for years. It turns but doesn't feel it has a lot of compression. It will get a full rebuild anyway but I just wanted to see what condition is it in before I start.
Cheers

May be better to hook a oil pressure sender up to make sure you have oil pressure and just crank it with plugs out??
Wouldnt want to sieze it and do more damage to the rare animal
hmmmmm...... just noticed your location. Exotic.

Thanks Chris, it was. Back now. "Only" 38 degrees now
Sadly, the Karmann Ghia has been sold. I am officially VW-less now 🙁. First time since 1985

I would hook up to a starter and remove the plugs and rocker covers then spin over with some light oil down the plug holes to lubricate
Spin the engine over untill you have oil pressure or oil comming out of the oil pressure switch port then refit the plugs and try n start keep the valve covers off untill you see the oil lubricating the rocker shafts then shut down and re fit the covers
