can anyone tell me accurately what year chassis no 1066778 and engine no 1310060 belong to. thanks rob.

Hi again Rob,

My book says its a very early 1956 chassis
made in early January 1956

1060930 - 1394119

Engine is 1956 also between

1,277,348 - 1,678,209 engine numbers..

these should be correct..

that confirms what i was told by previous owner. always good to double check tho. so does 12/55 marked on the back of the speedo make sense to you? thanks rob.

My chassis is 1227636 which is June 56

So yours would be Early 56 for sure

12/55 is the date of manufacture of the speedo. It wasnt until 1956 when your car was built that they got around to using that crate of speeedos.

Yes,
as Ameezer said its the date of manufacture of the speedo.
Many people check that to see when their car was made..
Yours was only a month old when it made it into Your car.
In the centre of Your wheels, You will also find the date of Manufacture
so, they may also say 12/55 as Your car was made in very early january 1956..

Back then the VW 1956 model year was beetles made from 1st January - 31st December...

In 1960 they changed the Volkswagen production year to:
1st August 1960 - 31st July 1961 = 1961 VW model
this coincides with the German holiday season...
so any major changes in parts would be introduced during the workers holidays in JULY...
