Right you pack of sooks (yes I'm trying to push your buttons), how hard can you really drive your car? You think you can really drive? Well here's an opportunity to fly your VW colours and have a great cheap days out.
CACA car club are staging two Come and Try Motorkhanas between now and the end of the year. You DON'T need a cams licence or a helmet or a fire extinguisher. All you need is a road worthy car and a sense of adventure. THe cost is around $35 (from memory) including lunch and you race from about 10-3pm. Kids from 12 years old can enter too, so bring your teenage kids out for a day of driver training.
As I said there are TWO dates.
23rd September - Ansell Pk, Richmond NSW. 28th October - Ansell Pk, Richmond NSW.
This is a great intro to short course rallying and the emphasis is on car control rather than outright power and speed. You can drive as fast or slow as you like. The course is just flags and a flat paddock so street cars are fine as well. The only repairs you can expect afterwards is cleaning a dusty car.
I've given you all plenty of warning so there is no excuse to pike out.

only 9 days to go, who's coming?
HEL-70Y ·
Where do you want to meet up so we can cruise down together?
pete wood ·
why don't you come round to my place.
pete wood ·
Ok everyone, I've just entered for myself, hel-toy and another mate. If you are coming you need to let me know so I can put your name in ASAP or email the club direct. These events are quite popular do to the no CAMS license setup so get in now or miss out on the fun. It's just $30 for a great day learning to drive better.
VWcool, are you still coming?
pete wood ·
Yesterday at Eastern Ck. Another come and try motorkhana. My mate's bluebird and a beetle. The kid driving the beetle was 12 and doing a great job. Want to have a go at this on saturday? Book now or let me know ASAP!!!

Drive it like you're POSSESSED..with the heater off.:jesus
pete wood ·
I can't turn the heater off, only the fan...🤪
But yes, I will be driving it hard.
How hard...THIS HARD!!!
jo_tas ·
Looks like fun!
I'll be having a go at one down here on sunday! I'm really looking forward to it!
HEL-70Y ·
can you have a passenger in the car?
than again that will probably just slow me down more
pete wood ·
yep you can have a passenger. They just need to sign a form. If it's your girly, why don't you get her to enter as well? Do you want me to put her down too? Just give me her name. You don't get out of first gear speed isn't an issue.
BTW, Sez I'd put the top on your car to stop dust getting in. Coz if it's as bad as the last one, you'll be struggling to see otherwise. And that's without even mentioning the amount you eat. Took me months to get it out of the buggy after last time.:duh
Jo_tas;
you go girl! great to see other people getting into it as well. 👍
HEL-70Y ·
my girly's gooooooone, i might bring my lil cuz keep them entertained for a day or come down with a mate or something, i'll see what happens. As for registering some one else, i dont think any one else is able to drive me car (i sort of built it to only fit me =)
Glad you told me about the roof thing, means i gota get it back on now, is it really that bad without a roof? whats the difference with dirt in your car or out side your windscreen?
pete wood ·
man, I'm so sorry to hear about the woman. I guess Valla was the last straw eh?
HEL-70Y ·
naa dude, actually glad she's gone...wasnt because of valla, long story
pete wood ·
LAST CALL!!!!! book now for the 23/9.....
or wait until October. 👎
pete wood ·
Absolutely last call for saturday. Email me NOW!!!
Karn, if you live in Sydney and haven't got anything on, at least come and have a look. It's right next to the RAAF base and is free to get in. It's at Ansell Pk, Richmond. Go toward the airbase and turn right just as you see the airstrip lights, before you go up the hill alongside the run way. If you can see planes you've gone to far.
HEL-70Y ·
Turned out to be an awesom day, heres a couple pics;

pete wood ·
a better one of Sez all crossed up.
There is a many a tail to be told about the day. All the dirt on Sez will come later...no pun intended.
VWCOOL ·
Looks hilarious! Hope you have good air filters!

VWCOOL wrote:Looks hilarious! Hope you have good air filters!
funny you should say that. by the end of the day Sez was bashing his aircleaner on his back wheel to knock some dust out of them and allow the car to breathe properly.
pete wood ·
course that was when he wasn't hanging out of tree...
pete wood ·
or getting other people to fix his car...
pete wood ·
But seriously. Sez went as a complete novice and was driving quite well by the end of the day. The car lived to fight another day with only a minor drama with one wheel lug being too long. Again can't thank Greg and Sam for pitching in an helping fix it.
There were three buggies at the event, Sam owning the green car, which was specially built for motorkhana/khanacross with turning brakes, irs and a decent 1776. Sam and his dad, Dave have been racing motorkhanas for years now and are both stunning drivers who love their VWs. I'm fairly certain Sam won the event outright.
Here are a few pics. The first are the 3 buggies together. Seeing 3 buggies at any small event these days is amazing so we had to take some pics. The second is of Sam in full flight. Note the inside front wheel several inches off the ground!!! The last is a pic of Greg's beetle. A very tidy 1500 with a 1600 twinport, webers and a tasty exhaust note.
So who's up for the next one then?
[ Edited on 24-9-06 by pete wood ]
HEL-70Y ·
Thanks 4 posting all the dirt on me :P
I honestly would of filled up a pot plant with all that dirt from my filters...i got a little carried away towards the end =) and cant wait until next one.
4agzekombi ·
Good to see the photos of my buggy up, thanks for that.
I'll defintly be at the next one as i'm going to be the director.
As for the wheel being off the ground, thats about a quarter of the last time we went out, will post some photos soon.
Might even get the photos of the Kombi at the photo shoot for a new ABC program (slight plug, HAHAHA)
Catcha soon boys(and girls)
Sam
pete wood ·
you 6 fingered devil. I thought you might poke your head up. 😂
HEL-70Y ·
Sam, thanks heaps for fixing my break thingo...
i think its broken again lol, i still gota pull it apart and have a look...maybe this arvo if i finsih early.
pete wood ·
Right then, who's up for the 28th of October?
No excuses, be there or....well you get my meaning.
Let's see how many VWs we can get entered in this one.
P.s. Sez, how's the license going?
HEL-70Y ·
Looking for a club to join, i email VOLKSWAGEN CLUB OF NSW INC but havnt got a reply yet. Are they still around?? does anyone know how i can find more info about them??
pete wood ·
good luck buddy, none of the VW clubs seem to be CAMS affiliated anymore. 🙁
someone correct me if I'm wrong. Mr Torrens?
pete wood ·
Saturday is approaching fast...COME ON, WHO'S COMING? :bounce
The_Bronze. ·
Looks like fun - too far for me unfortunately. If I break something the walk is too far and the wife wont be up for a 12 hour Sunday afternoon drive to come and get me.
Can you describe how the events run, are judged and what the lay out of the course is? Is not just hooning around the paddock is it. There is some purpose to it all eh? As you can see I've never been to one and I doubt there will be one here in Dubbo anytime soon.
Bronze.
HEL-70Y ·
do i need my cams this time?
i sent off my membership form to the vw club now just gota wait for a return before i can apply for my cams
pete wood ·
no, ring cams now and tell them you've applied for the club. chase it up or you won't have time. 😉
HEL-70Y ·
the lack of interest is quite sad dont you think?
still waiting to receive club membership...so not looking good. also had some reli's come up from melb and suppose to b havin a bday on sat (found out yesterday), i will probably get my ass kicked if i miss it.
Do you think its still possible for me to race tomorrow? if so how? are you still going?
also are you going to the stockton run next weekend?
yeh i no i ask alot of questions...
pete wood ·
yes I am racing. you could come and see, but I don't know if they'll let you race. I'm not going to stocko I don't think.
HEL-70Y ·
o well, my car can do with a weekend without a work out ill save it for stocko i think. my car is far from ready for it so i may need you to tow me out when i get bogged so u gota come.
pete wood ·

The_Bronze. ·

not a bad day today. 3 dubs there but only 2 competing. the first pic is Greg's beetle. he and his son John joined the club after checking out the last event. they entered in a fwd celica twincam. i'd say they were very close to the fastest there, which is not bad for straight out of the box, but then fwd are good for motorkhana if you can master the handbrake. aside of that, myself and the green buggy both raced, this time with David, Sam's dad driving the green buggy. sadly an ignition failure signalled the end of the race for it, but in good spirits, David broke out his XR6 tow car and finished the event in that.
