beetle & type 3 steering box the same?

Hey all,

My friend's 1968 beetle has a shot steering box. I have a known good type 3 steering box off a 1967.
Can this be used on the beetle?
I don't mean to sound lazy but the beetle is not here so can't compare them.
311 415 131A is the type 3 box's part number.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes they will fit, But you have to use the bracket off the beetle steering box that holds the steering box in place

We have put type3 steering boxes in to beetles.

Well if it's that easy I might give it a go then.

need to change the pitman arm, too - but yes the BOX is the same

All I can say is that we did not change the pitman arms on the ones that we did,

But we may have been lucky.

The pitman arms are a different length, you can use the type 3 one but the steering wheel turns a lot more than usual and feels weird to drive, kind of like a truck!

Thanks guys!
So if I just change the pitman arms over then fanny's my aunt yeah?
I'll have a crack at it tomorrow then...

The job is done.
Used the original pitman arm on the beetle and everything bolted right up!
Happy days...
