In a hotvws a few years ago there was a guy Doug (insert sirname) who had a 5 speed busbox built, it was a one off custom.

The issue had a P51 on the cover behind his car - he was an aircraft engineer...

berg's are curently testing their new five speed bus box in the black drag car.

it is looking promising for release to the public in the future.

pictured is the 5 speed with intermediate housing to fit type 1's, they are planning on doing the conversion to suit type 1, 2 & 3!!

But is the 5th gear taller then the already overdrive 4th? Or is it just another gear in between 3rd & 4th?
If its the latter, it will make no difference cruising on the highway

Nice idea but what are the doing about ratios 1-4, already too short for a street car with std diff...?

edit: Just noticed the ratios are written there...

Peloquin trans used to make one too,
but it had an unusual shift pattern.
You can get virtually any ratio you want in the aftermarket,
but you have to keep the RPM around the factory's recommendations,
what ever engine you have.
For beetle use you can get tall 1&2 gears (as well as 3&4)
to bring things back to where you want them.
