Cop bait?

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/55916/cop-bait

Hertz ·

Notched my spring plates today. What do you think, cop bait or not. Hope not, took half a day of adjusting and testing to stop it from rubbing on the inner gaurds.

warb ·

MickH ·

Or you could consider that their might actually be Police already on this forum.

Enough with the pig remarks

Baja Robert ·

Yeah, lay off the pigs. Its not their fault they are pigs. Its their jobs to be pigs.

VWCOOL ·

it's their job to keep us safe from f**kwits and morons

bugeyedbabe ·

Yep...there are police on the forum...

And just like everyone else...they made a mistake or two in theire job...it happens...and again ...like every group of workers...u come across one or two who are obnoxious...doesnt mean they all are...just a couple.

Why do I defend them? 1. the returned my daughter when her dad didn't...from interstae. 2. I'm related to a couple.
3. I'd hate to be doing their job myself. 90% of it is shit, getting harrassed and seeing the crappy side of people. Who'd wanna do that?

not me....so thank goodness their are others who are willing to do it.

PS: hertz..I lvoe ur car. Don't worry about getting pulled over. if it happens, it happens. just have a good excuse ready. Like....I'm new to the VW world. This is my first. I have always just assumed they came like this. I wondered why some others sat higher? (Do it with a puzzled look too.) thank them for the time to show u...and hopefully they will let u go with a warning.

CAFFINEPUSHERMAN ·

i must admit when i was doing up 50's and 60's fords i was constantly hasseled by the police but sice getting into vw's they just look and smile i even had one pull me over to chat about my kombi

velvet glove ·

PIG = Pride, Integrity, Guts

so I guess the euphemism is a compliment

velvet glove ·

And at the same time, every car forum that I've ever been on someone is having a go at the coppers. Some people on car forums do nothing but perpetuate a myth about motor enthusiasts.

If you do something wrong you'll get booked. If you don't, you won't.....its not rocket science.

Hertz's dub looks fantastic. If its roadworthy which I assume it is, they might get wheeled occassionally but there will be no dramas.

BUGBOY ·

PHAT BUG ·

Looks Great Josh, your gunna have to roll with out the spats tho, you cant hide that sorta camber!!

wacked1 ·

looks awsome

killakornkobb ·

i'v been cruising with my height 90mm all round and decklid open, and a copper has stopped me to tell me my front tyre looked a little flat🙂

Hertz looks the goods!!!

Love it 🙂

Baja Robert ·

VWCOOL wrote:it's their job to keep us safe from f**kwits and morons
Yeah, there is plenty of them around eh?

dak002 ·

Looks Great Hertz;

And the spats seem to be part of that car.. hide the camber, except for those in the know, who'll see it anyway....

As for the legislation and the legislation upholders....

the way I figure it, keep your nose clean, do what you're told, and abide by the law, when it suits you.

And when you don't ..... be perpared to take the consequences IF and when you may get pulled up.

Get out of the car, talk to them as people, we all have jobs to do, and I don't want to do that job. And who are you going to call, when something happens to you??

Remember, they are upholding the law; and are not the ones who make/write the stupid legislation, that says a car has to be a certain height off the ground; to be safe.......

And I'll eat lots of humble pie, if it saves me a yellow sticker, and/or $$$$$$.. Oh gee whiz, the suspension just collapsed, and I'm going to the mechanic, (via Chapel St at 10pm, on a Friday night)

Around Noosa the cops just target young drivers. I drive around in my buggy day in day out, year in year out never a problem ,my son used it one day and was pulled over immediately. He was also nicked for not indicating on leaving a roundabout- he was going straight ahead, if any of you know Noosa it's all roundabouts! Anyway I've video'd cops doing the same thing and NOBODY indicates going straight ahead at any roundabout. The youngsters get moved along even when they're parked up with their engines off and just continually hassled it's no wonder there's this antagonism against cops.

velvet glove ·

I assume your son pleaded not guilty when he went to Court. I assume you also forwarded the video of the Police not indicating in the same circumstances to the Internal Affairs dept of QPOL?

I'm guessing no.

Like I said, every motor forum I've ever seen in the country ends up degrading into Police sledging when the sledgers wouldn't have the ticker to do the job

kombidaze ·

the people who join the police force do so because they have a certain kind of mentality similar to the military take orders and carry them out, without question they represent the LAW the LAW has been concocted by those in POWER to keep the status quo as it is and as it has always been, i.e the rich, elite class ALWAYS get to rule and they run the whole show for themselves and they are always conservative in thought and action. the descriptive term for most societies is called UTILITARIANISM is is constructed to suit the majority it is not constructed to suit individualism in fact individualism (unless it makes vast sums of money for those in power) is looked upon as being alien and going against the status quo and therefore you will inevitably come in contact with those who have been given the power to uphold the LAW i.e cops, so as a friend of mine said, "if you want to keep out of trouble keep your ears low" or "if you stick your head up above the trenches be prepared to get it shot off."

kombidaze ·

and by the way hertz your bug looks fantastic!!! but it doesn't seem to go with the house its parked next to??

velvet glove ·

I dunno where you did your political science degree, but you are really discussing theories of socialism where the collective will always benefit ahead of the individual. The exact opposite is correct of the capitalist system in which we broadly live under, where the rights of the individual are paramount.

I would be described as an 'individual'. That individuality does not draw adverse comment and is looked upon as a positive trait, as that sort of thinking encourages innovation.

The stuff you unfortunately incorrectly speak of has nothing to do really with the case in point, however your final point is entirely correct. Don't break the law, don't meet the cops. None of my mates do.

And there is no particular 'mentality' required to join the Police. Having been a member of both the military and the Police it was the job that attracted me, not a power kick. There are desirable personality types (or rather undesirable ones) that are sought, but there are that many different personalities in the job that point again, unfortunately, factually incorrect

Hertz ·

kombidaze wrote:and by the way hertz your bug looks fantastic!!! but it doesn't seem to go with the house its parked next to??
Thanks mate. Your right it doesn't match my house but you cant live in squalar can you. I like yore advice about keeping my ears low. I figure if my ass is low, my ears must be too.

mid 64 ·

Looks very cool Hertz, When my dropped spindles get here I too will be gettin it down that low and don't expect any hassle from the boys in blue as long as you don't drive like a twat you should be cruisin.
cant wait to get the 140 kilo of sand bags out of the front tee hee.

ancientbugger ·

By the way velvet glove we are contesting the roundabout nick as according to the driving test booklet(road laws whatever) that my son has it is not law in Queensland to indicate if the vehicle is driving straight ahead, it may be law in other states but not in Queensland. As for the video we are holding that for if it goes to court, for a $45 fine I would be very surprised especially when it's not illegal. You could sit at any roundabout in Noosa and watch every vehicle go through without indicators ,my sons problem was his age and the coppers just sitting there waiting for their next victim. Just to get this in perspective though it appears to be just one specific copper who's the bane of the young drivers, maybe he's on instructions who knows? Anyway we'll see if and when it goes to court-oh by the way I even rang Qld Transport to query it and they advised us to dispute it. Oh and love the beetle Hertz!!

You're not wrong... example: Holden Statesman 9.30am this morning, wire hanging out of his rear tyres. Green P plates. 5 heads on board, car crabbing sideways with obvuious steering/alignment problems... At least the pimple-faced kid driving didn't tell me to f*ck off when I said he should check his tyres!!

Oh yeah, top rat, Hertz!

kroozzn63 ·

who cares its fugging cool man

crewcabconnection ·

Beelte looks great ... the police force has two parts as far as I can tell, some that are dedicated to preventing and solving crime, and the other that is rostered onto fund raising ventures.

RBT for example ... if its a slow night, they are happy to pull cars to the side and 'look' for a problem ... such as not having a locking engine lid on a 67 bus, $77 thank you. Nothing to do with safety or preventing crime, pure bullshit.

In my opinion, just about anyone is fair game if they are running an RBT or long weekend hassle station ... so yeah you probably will get fined. But driving along? - unlikely.

555bug ·

There seems to be a few holier than thou types in this thread and that bugs me. People beliefs are shaped by their experiences. Like most people the only police we will ever meet will be involved in traffic branch in some way. I've run into quite a few as a younger man and as a motorcyclist 🙁 and I can only agree with the vast majority of comments thus far. However that said I happen to have gone through a Psychology degree and most of my mates went for this type of work, and based on conversations with said friends I can only speculate that police, like most of us can be bothered dealing with these draconian personalities, so they give them a car or bike and send them on their way so that the world on the whole has to deal with them less. Its a shame from a PR perspective 🙁 and if people are looking for a utopian world where we deal with each encounter on a case by case basis then they are dreaming as people love to stereotype as ultimately is saves time. Just my 2c but always play nice 😉

oh I got so carried away ranting I forgot to say props to the car, looks mad 🙂

Good luck in court Ancient Bugger but I hope your not pinning your hopes on what Qld Transport tells you.

To top that off the video you have of the Police doing same will have no bearing on your sons case, as the evidence is unfortunately inadmissible as it has nothing to do with your son's case. Section 305 of the Australian Road Rules also creates exemptions for emergency services vehicles. If the ARR don't apply in Qld there will be some piece of similiar legislation.

I will admit that getting a ticket for not indicating leaving a roundabout when going straight ahead is pretty petty, but don't hang your hopes on poor advice and irrelevant evidence. Unfortunately all the Police will need to do is prove what your son did, show it is against the relevant law and that's pretty much it. The old chestnut of 'everyone else does it' doesnt obviate your son's liability in this regard.....sorry

If the copper in question is behaving in a vindictive or malicious fashion then you should make an official complaint about his behaviour.

Like I say, good luck in Court. If he gets off then all well and good, but my advice would be to pay the ticket and be done with it. It will cost a lot more than $45 to fight it and if/when you lose there will be the additional impost of court costs etc. I have seen $200 tickets turn into over $1000 when unsuccessfully defended in court

I have no idea of what 555Bug is talking about, as the whole thing doesn't make sense.

And in hindsight I'm guessing the biggest problem Hertz will have is the splaying of the rear wheels. I'm pretty sure that would fail inspection. The rest looks fantastic

warb ·

velvet glove wrote:..... is pretty petty.....
sums it all up realy.......

Hertz ·

Beam next, once i can get off my arse and find some adjusters and bushes. Still plenty of time till the day of. No need to rush these things.

decked dubby ·

Yeah, lower the better.

Looks cool, go the camber. :thumb

squizy ·

15 degrees of camber.....lovin' it. 👍

LUFTMEISTER ·

hope your running sealed wheel bearings or you will grind to a halt and that would not be cool. good luck with the machinery inspection. notched plates change camber reaction points and will more than likely fail (at what speed?) due to metal fatigue at the introduced stress points added to the plate. 🙁

vwjon ·

the ride is cool as.... i'm not impressed with it being called a HOODRIDE, since when have the yanks in their ghetto's ever ever driven or used a vee dub??
oh yeah the cops do a great job with their multinovas etc, i was a lost tourist in Lanclin, it was late and i was looking for a bed or campsite, what did the pigs do? book me $60 for not carrying my international drivers licence!! could the cops help me? no, your problem isn't ours was the answer! another cop mentioned " jury f*cker" do i support a 20% pay rise? NO 60 times over!!!!
sorry to bitch but i gotta tell some one.
