Joel ·

good to see it getting a bit of luvin

has certainly gone down hill since it was in vw aust magazine many moons ago
not that it was anything flash back then either

nothing like a bright baja:thumb

makntracks ·

yeah has gone down hill quite a lot.
bit of a shame wouldnt of taken much to keep it up to scratch it wasnt realy a show car. does anyone know any history about it other than in the magazine.
thanx
mick

Anthiron ·

if i had the money when this came up for sale i would have bought it myself.

good starter project as the hard stuff is done. bajas dont have to be pretty. dont spend too much money on paint and body or u will be scared to scratch it.

where didu get the stinger if u dont mind me asking? and how much?

makntracks ·

from mick motors for around $60
yeah i just want it to look a bit better and if it gets too scratch ill just change colour.

jeeze i hate sanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cussing

aussiebaja ·

PUT ACOUPLE OF COATS OF CLEAR OVER THE ORANGE THAT WILL PROTECT IT A FAIR BIT AND IT WILL MAKE THE ORANGE LOOK REALLY DEEP AND WET ALL THE TIME

makntracks ·

bought scat shifter today looks very bling. with new cor gear knob.

aussiebaja ·

you wont want to get it dirty if you buy too much stuff

makntracks ·

yeah it is starting to get a bit that way.
i put the scat shifter in today have got it all the way forward but still cant get any of the bottom gears.( reverse, 2nd, 4th.)
it seems to hit on the bottom plate. it need s to come forward more has any one got any ideas dont realy want to start cuting into my new shifter yet.
would i need to shorten the shaft that goes from the shifter to the gear box.

aussiebaja ·

thats turned out great ,,,,looks like its floating with the rags over the wheels ,,,,,needs something to break up the orange though

last celtic warrior ·

I kind of liked the original theme on this cool Baja, which I have an article on from a few years ago. I wasn't totally in love with it, but I did really like the checkers, which sort of gave it character in a racey sorta way. How about splashing a checkered stripe down the side with a twist to it... like this...

makntracks ·

yeah ive got a few different ideas to break it up. only going with 2 maybe 3 colours in the whole car im keeping it black and orange at the moment. i was thinking maybe a tread pattern across it. i also liked the old paint but it was pretty much unrepairable those little checkers where individual squares that had gone brittle and them alone took me hours to get off. just dont know wat to do for the interior (guages and the such) at the moment.
any comments appreciated

makntracks ·

just finished sanding interior going all black dash and doors for the inside.+some more picks of painting

makntracks ·

some more picks almost ready for rego.

pyr0 ·

looking good 👍 nice and bright too

64vwmark ·

It's looking really good. If it was my car I wouldn't do any thing else to the paint, I like the single colour. :beer

Anthiron ·

i love it.

i love orange bajas.

im with mark actually. i like the orange with the black light fittings.

maybe some stickers on the rear qtr, performance parts u have used ie: sponsor look alikes.

i can see your stereo equipment getting very wet in that thing....

makntracks ·

yeah am going sort of a recer sort of baja look lol.
will be getting some stickers for the quarters as you said.
the tail light sorounds wernt meant to be black but i forgot to paint them. so i painted them black but now i think that it needed it to braek up the orange. as for the sterio the soft top is 2 piece one bit covers the back and another covers the roof i will be running the back half most of the time any way to not make it so eye catchin to the crims. does any one know of any after martket central locking or alarms. as i have no keys and is push buttin start i put in a power cut off key like on a drag car in the back but i dont know how that will last. any suggestions or comment appreciated.

Anthiron ·

heres an idea for your alarm on the cheap.

your doors should have little push switches in them for the interior light.

so rig up your horn to an indicator flasher relay so that when the buttons arent compressed by the door the horn sounds in bursts.

just put a switch somewhere like under a fender or just under your rear soft top cover that u can slip a finger in and flick the switch.

makntracks ·

thats actualy a good idea will look into doing that but i have only got air horns but i spose it will still work. wat about central locking doors that lock might help.
any ideas.

Anthiron ·

just grab an old 12v horn from a wreckers somewhere.

seriously i dont think doors that lock are important......especially when u have your soft top down.....and if it was my car that would be all the time unless it was raining.

but most kids who see an open top car and think hey ill check the glovebox and open the door and get a horn blast in their ear would leg it out of there pretty quick.

if u really want central locking you could try U2Uing baja wes. he has central in his baja.

does yours use the later locks or early style?

makntracks ·

thought it was about time i put up some fresh info
baja in now finished and regoed.
hear is some picks.
