Thank you all very much for the kind words, car was found by the police unscathed in a shopping centre carpark and it appears nothing has been stolen at this stage. We are still having it fingerprinted and checked for any possible mechanical damage etc...Thanks to all of you! :bounce

65busser ·

Good luck.
VDUBXTC ·

Surely it is a stupid crime of opportunity, I would hate to think someone from the VW Scene would be involved in this. Hope it all works out

It is fully insured, top of the range type but I'd rather the safe rreturn of my baby...:vader
BUGBOY ·
This seems to be happening more and more.
I'm so sorry to hear this news Aldo, and i hope you have it return all in one piece as i know the blood sweet and tears you have put into this car.
I think its time to maybe make a new section on the forum for stolen cars, parts etc?
I feel if this comes about it shold not be a place for comments or chat but just a picture of the car/part and id like rego chassis or engine numbers etc and contact detail of the orginial owner.
Again sorry to hear mate and i'll keep an eye out!
I know how you would feel!
helbus ·
What suburb was it from?
winerot ·
bugboy is right its starting to happen over here, ssvc & samba has a stolen section
on its site, i think avd should think about having one unfortunately.
the beetle in sydney last week or so now a type 3, both these vw's
are top notch restoes & would be near impossible to unload in aust
which makes me think that they might be targetted for o/s.
rupewrecht ·
That blows 🙁
Will definitely keep an eye out. What area did it go missing from? (east/west etc)
bajachris88 ·
yup, will keep an eye out too... tis a pity
at least they got good tastes....
Hope they burn...
baybuscamperkid ·
damn, will keep an eye out, unfortunately you would have to assume it was someone who knows somehting about dubs if they managed to make a getaway, not exactly like fleeing in a normal car
GASBNR ·
Damm, thats F@#*ked.
Sorry to hear that A.
I'll keep an ear out.
Hope you get it back, wheels and all.
OL
GoldCloverLeaf ·
Oh no 🙁
I just got a call from Al, i actually flew down from Sydney to look at this car on the weekend, i was ready to make on offer on it too and to hear this news is a huge shock, this Squareback was one of a kind.
I hope you find the bastard(s) involved 😬
Its hard to believe this sort of thing happens...you would think the VW community is pretty close knit.
Man im really bummed, I was really looking forward to owning this car in the near future!
It was good meeting you Al and I really hope you get it back unharmed.
Keep me updated on what happens.
CAFFINEPUSHERMAN ·
watching st kilda for you bro😬👍
ren ·
Hey Aldo. Why don't you list some of the key collectable parts here so we can all look out for them on eBay/samba etc...
baybuscamperkid ·
ren wrote:Hey Aldo. Why don't you list some of the key collectable parts here so we can all look out for them on eBay/samba etc...
maybe best if he doesnt, if he lists, the thug who took it will know what not to sell together to make himself less obvious. if you can take the time, start doorknocking, see if anyone heard when it left (may have woken someone else up) especially if they did soem damage getting in. admittedly not the same scale, but when i had my cruiser nicked while i was travelling i got out on the streets and talked to every person in the area who was outside at the time, talked to local shops who may see it etc, dudes at the beach, people of all ages, and sure enough the thief had an open ear, got spooked by the amount of hype going around (like your beautiful wagon it was a 1 of a kind and therefore would have been hard to get rid of) and sure enough by 12.00 he had dumped it in a public place for me to find without even a scratch on it. if your guy has local ears to the ground you may be able to spook him before he gets too far. all the best dude
SPRINTSTAR ·
Thanks everybody, cops seem to suggest that if it was stolen by joyriders,it should have been found by now...keep our fingers crossed.:cry
Miss her already...

Best of luck getting it back, hopefully unscathed. I know how it feels to have a car pinched, it really does suck. I've got my brother-in-law's family in melbourne on the look out for it. Keeping fingers crossed for you mate.
Brendan.
Schmoburger ·
Damn man.. that sucks.. but I reckon a square that's as stunning as that would stick out like dogsballs, so hopefully it turns up. 🙂
I'll post this on KC and BWM to help ya cause a little mate. 👍
I think sadly I may have to start locking the Kombi.... or disconnecting the battery and locking the engine bay! :cry
stephenianjames ·
Sorry to hear of your news..that's 1 sweet car.
It may be a different car but on my way to work I saw a mint, early (ie pre 69) black squareback with a roof rack and other bling travelling north up Hawthorn Road, East Brighton this morning (between Nepean Hwy and North Rd. The time would have been around 8.00am or so.
I just saw the car cruising along and it caught my eye.
Probably not much help but it might piece information together.
Best of luck,
Steve
malcolm ·
sorry to hear that sprintstar start ringing the vbud shops in melb incase they try to sell parts.
ruckus ·
Al that's crap!
Ren and I've got Box Hill covered.
Hertz ·
Will keep an eye out on all the applicable websites for some of the bits. Sorry to here hopefully as you say, its just joyriders looking for a ride home. Good luck!
62deluxe ·
That's terrible news buddy. It's sad to think that you just can't leave your car overnight and expect to see it in the morning as/where you left it.
Hope it turns up. Love that car. We'll all keep our eyes peeled!!!😬
BenettonVW ·
Aldo, that sucks mate. No one should experience any of that crap..
All the best, and if the car comes up this way, of course, I will let you know.
Mr Bubble Head ·
Dam that shit sucks. I agree with most on hear hopfully some dick wanting a ride home. Or its going to leave these shores for good. I would doubt someone has stolen it to break up as these parts would stand out like dogs balls if they ever came up on ebay the samba etc. Best of luck on the safe return, you know I'll have my eyes open for you.
nIck
VW1976 ·
Thats bad news, i work at a vw shop in greensborough and will keep an eye out for ya.
ren ·
baybus - i disagree, we have to know what to look out for, because the dick isn't going to put the car on eBay, as-is, and if he's smart enough to be reading this thread, then he'll be smart enough to not sell the parts/car on here, ebay oz, etc...
Notch Nut ·
That is really bad news about the car dude. I'll keep my eyes peeled in the Sth East suburbs for any spottings. I hope it turns up safe and sound.
- Adam
moneypenny ·
I've got Tassie covered for you in case he floats it across on the Spirit. Also mentioned it to the Ballarat VW mafia, who actually know the car - so that area is covered as well.
Fingers crossed for you.
fekkinell ·
if i catch em... ill be sure to tie their balls to the mirror for you upon its return... fluffy dice? who needs em? 😬
quazi ·
So sorry,
That is the worst news I have heard in a long time.

Ummm ..time to bring back harsher penalties to slow up these bastards...as i remember it when i was in India they cut off your fingers of the hand you eat with if your caught thieving .... you use the other for toilet functions
Anyway keeping our eye out for you!!
GoldCloverLeaf ·
I even bought some vintage luggage off ebay to be ready for its roof rack :cussing
Is there a local newspaper? A girl that had her EJ Holden stolen here on the northern beaches of sydney submitted a picture to the Manly Daily newspaper, they ran a small article and the car was found parked on a side street the next morning, i think the car was sitting there for a couple weeks but everyone just assumed it was a neighbours car.
fastyman66 ·
Wow I am shocked and sorry to read of this Sprintstar.
Have you had any news?
PC
4hammers ·
Guys, maybe if a few of us posted "Wanted" ads in the local trading posts for Type 3 stuff, especially accessories?? Get is Australia wide & you never know, you could get a number?? Jusdt a though......
Rob J
p.s. Goodluck in the search, I have Tassie south covered.
mackaymanx ·
I don't want to sound negative but if it wasn't joy riders, the person (extremely generous description) who took this may be on or viewing this forum.
koolkarmakombi ·
Or maybe they are not, in which case do your best fellas! ( and ladehs)
SPRINTSTAR ·
Thanks for your concern guys, don't worry,Karma is a real bitch,it bites back there times harder than you can possibly imagine. I hope the prick is reading this...

u should ring a few dub places, or even just call around with a few printed posters.
"HAVE YOU SEEN THIS CAR?"
reward or seomthing with it too...
I dunno, but if i were in ur situation, i would be desperately trying everything 🙁
SPRINTSTAR ·
I've spread the word all over Oz..all I can do now is wait and hope to recover it..
62deluxe ·
Rest assured bud. Karma will come and bite them fair in the arse. Your car stands out, surely someone who knows someone saw something....
It would be a crime in itself to lose a car like this.

UPDATE:
Police were convinced it was definitely not joyriders, they think the thief has access to this forum and got cold-feet. Where it was found and based on the recent weather activity and all other forensic stuff, suggests it was tucked away somewhere 'nice'(garaged/storage) before it was dumped.
MickH ·
So....gutter scum does exist on this forum.......would love to know who it is,must be someone REALLY pathetic..

man buy a lottery ticket u lucky devil ,good stuff ,great to hear

Its great to see your car turned up and its good to see that the power of the people on this forum could have made this all possible.
now all we have to do is get my 76 aerial ball back!

Good new Al. Glad its all turned out OK. Interesting that the Police think it wasnt joyriders.
We all had better be a bit more aware of posting our street address details on here I guess.

I agree...
more than 1 occasion i have worried at night of some idiot i pissed off on the forum knocking on my door with a gun...
as well as my stuff out the back being stolen... my car has no doors...
But anyways, congrats mate. I bet u will always be double checking to make sure its locked. I hope i don't get into that situation, if i did, and came out like ay, would end up taking the wheels off and putting the car on blocks every night its in the drive way... lol
Notch Nut ·
Glad it turned up safe. Hope the cops catch the #$%^& that stole it. :vader

You didn't know this already ????????
Am glad to hear that your dub is back safe and sound. Nothing peeves me more than ppl who think that they have the right to help themselves to someone elses property! Hope if this person is reading this thread they realise what a beating they will get from angry Vdub owners if caught!
fekkinell ·
should let the cops fingerprint us all, and see who chickens out... maybe DC is still shitty that we hate him and came back for desert 😉
vw54 ·
Great news hope all is intact
and many years of happy motoring to come 👍
65busser ·
If it was taken from a place that wasn't it's usual address it's more likely to be a random thing. S'ones spotted it, nicked it, finished with it.

that place was a fellow V-dubbers place though wasnt it? maybe they were after the beetle instead but the wagon was easier to get to?

Glad you got it back unscathed

tehe, nice last pic, i always marvel at how small the type 3 wagons really are when you put them next to 'real' cars, i cruise with the back seat down in mine because carry lots of junk and when i put the back seat up the boot almost looks comical. 😀
