After much time on the phone, emailing photos and driving around town I have come to the conclusion that MOST PANEL BEATERS ARE LAZY!
So maybe someone here can help me...
I am restoring two dubs, a 59 type 1 and a country buggy.
The country is first of the bat, and needs rust work and some fab work, I can do the rest... this is body only. I can handle the pan myself and I will supply the body on a dolly.
The bug has been blasted and is on a dolly and needs a little rust work (passenger heater channel, spare wheel well, decklid) then respray (two pack). Once again body only...
Someone who has worked on VW's preferable, but not essential... just want a good job done.
is this too much to ask?
cheers for any help, and I am in Perth (Maylands)

Best to put a bit more detail, and fill in your profile.
This will help with people being able to see if they can help or if they are to far away etc.:thumb
Welcome to the forum.

Photo's can help too.
I wouldn't say most panel beaters are lasy, they are just too wound up in and driven by the insurance industry/ crash repair machine.
Like trying to find a doctor that does house calls these days?
I am fortunate enough to work for a company that would happily restore your cars to everyday or show standard if you wish. Can even arrange transport to Melbourne and back. We have two cars from NZ, one bound for Japan and two bound for USA in our shop at the moment. So it seems that restoration shops are not easy to find. The only unfortunate thing is the cost may very well be prohibitive.
Full resto's on vehicles are costing upwards from $15,000 these days. 'Restoration' being the operative word. This is a step further than 'bare metal respray'

I will post photos tomorrow, not sure about shipping them to vicco but...

Im in the same boat at the moment, I'm leaning towards Mundaring pannel and paint, they did a really good job on a mates supra which did need some time straightening on the rack, a few body mods and a fair bit of rust cut out. I used to race against one of the painters there, Jamie.
I havent as yet got a quote for my car, or to see if they are interested in doing it, as has been mentioned before about most places just doing crash or insurance jobs mearly replacing pannels.. A couple of guys at work have mentioned other places, two of them being ex pannel beaters, if you want the names of the places.

that would be tops, thanks punch bug.

Nurries, these are the places that were recommended, I wouldnt have a clue how much they charge though and havent seen any work myself but were recommended by the ex pannel beaters..... anyway, Swan City Smash near Military and Robertson st, Cool Rides and Classics in Malaga, and Nick and Alberto in Omally.

cheers simon, this whole process has become so frustrating I started thinking about converting my shed to a booth...
I even had to go and pick my beetle shell up last weekend, after I drove to the guys house and NOTHING had been done!
