Hi guys, well after a fornight of installing a new old 1800 kombi engine in my 76 bus and replacing most things (plugs, coil and dizzy) the engine came to life, she needs a tune up but thats fine. Well my question is I bought a new accelerator cable as the bus didn't come with one and I have pushed it through the firewall. It is connected at the front but is about 2-3inches too short to make it too the carb linkage. Is there something that I am going wrong?

Thanks

Hi

Your Kombi cable only needs to be 3458mm long
211 721 555AA part number
used from 1975-1979

1964-1967 cable is 3576mm long [longer]

1955-1964 cable is 3564mm long [longer]

1973-74 cable is 3655mm long [longer]
211 721 555T

Best of Luck

Thanks Lee, I got the item off ebay, from a dealer in Melbourne and the part number is correct 211.721.555aa. I measured the length and it was 3655mm long so it is the wrong length but should still be long enough. It is a brazilian part, could that make a difference? I have attached it to the pedal cluster, under the van and ran it through the tube all the way to the back, then the tude runs to above the clutch cable wingnut and through the firewall. I thought it was maybe caught up somewhere and have yanked it pretty hard to try to clear it and checked underneath. Maybe I will just go to Volkspower or Mr. Bug and get a german one.

I'm not really up on Kombi cables etc...
or the pedal set up although I've seen the RHD & LHD pedals in books...
but it doesn't really mean much when You've never worked on a Kombi...
You would think if the part is different to a German one the part number should be different..
and those cables can get a kink etc too...

Best of Luck

On Beetles, I found that the car is actually made for LHD
cables...
and Our RHD pedal set up just goes across to the LHS of the tunnel...
and it turns out, that the RHD beetles pedal assy virtually never wears out, because its so long....
but the LHD ones do wear out...

on my kombis standard linkage there is a longish (about 3") tube which comes off the linkage bar and the end of the cable is clamped into it with a set screw (small hex head) holding the whole show together, the tube is long enough so as there is some adjustement to take up a bit of cable slack but correct cable length is important.
