Hi All, Both window winders in my Beetle are completely stuffed, they used to work but gave up the ghost, largely I think because due to the roof chop having removed the window runners (See pictures)

Now, I want to get my windows working again, but I'm hesitant to just replace the mechanisms as the same thing is going to happen, both my doors have some nasty rust at the base, due I feel to not having window rubbers in it when first bought, I got them to add the rubbers but as can be seen from the photos its not such a good fit.

So anyhow, what have others done to avoid these problems? I'm thinking of replacing the doors completely, need to consider whre to cut them though...

You need the winders with the double lift mechanism. These are preferred for one piece windows.
Not sure - but one of the later beetles had them

The doors are of a wet design - ie water "should" be able to pass through.
Make sure the drains at the bottom at clear and give them a good drink if fish oil

my 68 has single channel lift but our 72 has twin channels so somewhere in between maybe?

its hard to know coz so many beetles have been in prangs and had the doors swapped
my 70 bug has a 74 1300 passenger door with a twin lift but the 74 1300 beetle i have has single point lifters and theyre original ones so go figure??

theyre highly sort after by the onepice window brigade
its the only reason mine has one

pretty sure tho i;ve read in hot vws that it was 67 and 68 beetles that had them
