Door Window lift channel Question

Ok this may be a dumb question,

Can anyone tell me what the hole is for on the lift channel that attaches to the window glass?

Is there any particular process in making this hole in the lift channel and what size, end, etc does it have to be on?

Thanks,

Matt.

Here is a picture of the lift channel and window assembly. Can anyone tell me which end I need to drill the hole, what size the hole has to be and what it is needed for?

hmmmmm...editing a post doesn't bump it to the top so I will have to post a reply.

Anyone able to answer my questions with the picture added?

1964 beetle with earlier model door, supposibly there is a cutoff date between the new and the old features of the beetle in 1964. I think the previous owner may have done some mismatching with different parts?

Anyways any help is greatly appreciated.

the hole isnt for any thing no purpose it doesnt attach or have any fitting attached to it so you dont need to drill it

Maybe it was used when thay actuall made the channel section at the factory

Do you have the wire clip that the winder slides on make sure it fitting correctly and has plently of grease to lubricate it

Thanks VW54, Yeah I have the butterfly clips, both mine were broken and it cost me a bob and a half to get new ones as i was told that they are harder and harder to find.

I will heavily grease the channel etc, and forget about drilling the hole. How doe I clamp the lift channel on the glass, just use a pair of pliers?

Cheers Matt.

Much Appreciated.

yeah pre-tension the lift channel with pliers to give a firm grip

I have also used silicone sealer to 'glue' it in place
