Picking up tomorrow....picks soon.

ruckus ·

squizy ·

Man where are you getting these things from? You're going to need another shed.

decked dubby ·

Mate, this is car #10, plus 2 bikes:duh

Couldn't pass this up. My brother in law has owned it over ten years. I drove it about 9 years ago, then it was parked ever since. I haven't seen it since, but when it was offered i just had to say yes.

I pick it up in the morning.

decked dubby ·

Sneaked a peak this morning. Will drive home tomorrow.

decked dubby ·

Sat morning got up early and went and picked up the oval. It was down a very steep drive, dad towed me up.

After a tow up the road it fired up and i drove it home.:thumb

A wash and clean out i ended up with this.

decked dubby ·

I have fixed the LH headlight. Will oil change it today, get a battery. Its 12v also. Will have it regoed by the end of the week.

I don't know what the hell to do with it though? Would be cool as is, mad slammed and left, perfect to resto as its vertually rust free. Trouble is i don't need it. Maybe swap it? I want a country buggy.

squizy ·

Bloody hell Damian you have some tough decisions. Swap the 54 for a CB, or not hmmm.....😵‍💫 I'm sure there's one particular person already with a CB and a 54 that we both know who may want to swap. 😏 Maybe drop CB Bill a line too??

oval TOFU ·

That looks well clean! Great score!

lower it.

byronbus ·

Looks unreal, an early also, 54/55 love it...
How much would you sell it for?

Mate, i have no idea???? Open to offers i supose???? I have got 8 registered cars at the moment. Just cant drive them all, getting a bit silly really.🤪

This should be regoed by friday also.

Craig Torrens ·

What motor is in it ?

byronbus ·

DD, how did you go with rego?

decked dubby ·

Rego today, and new wheels.......maybe lowered by the end of week too.

BenettonVW ·

Man, I thought owning 5 of these things was out of control..
I also thought that 3 rego's was harsh..

Love ya work mate. Nice sleeves too. 🙂

byronbus ·

Post some new piccies please

Dasdubber ·

Nice work - bloody hell there are a lot of 54s coming out of the woodwork!

decked dubby ·

Busting too lower it now.

squizy wrote:Man you work fast.
Not fast enough!!

65busser ·

What a great colour. Those wheels work a treat on that. Prob wouldn't on much else these days, but just right on that puppy.
Nothing like a new canvas.
Luv yer work.

byronbus ·

DD, did you lower the old girl? Anymore pics?

decked dubby ·

Done a couple of things.

Added a side flash, mesh sunvisor and putting some Albert mirrors on over the weekend. I am narrowing a beam at the moment, so it will be low soon. Also adding a hidden sound system in a old suitcase run by a MP3.

Will take another pic.

byronbus ·

Love it, keep the pics coming...

Turbo54 ·

Nice looking 54, sortof where mines heading with alberts and flash. I pulled my good flash out of the box the other day and was going to trial fit it on the car with double sided tape and noitced that i had to flex the door section a lot to get them to fit. Obviously the clips would hold it on tight but is there any way to curve them to the shape of the door so if you held them up against the door they could just sit there. Was yours the same?
T54

decked dubby ·

Yeah mine was the same. I croutched down and put it on my thigh and gently worked a slight curve in it. Fits perfect now. Just push gently at 5cm intervals.

DubbinDan ·

Hmmmm cabriolet. Love 'em. Haven't noticed that in your collection before. New addition?

decked dubby ·

Here is the link. Had it about 4 weeks.

Thanks mate.

Couple of update pics,

Beam is in, 4" narrowed with shocks and no body mods.

Stereo install done, MP3 player, with hidden sound. Two amps, one for sub and one for the 6x9's.

Now you see it,

Now you don't,

Me and Squiz.

whatnow ·

looks great. the suitcase is a nicely done addition.

is it possible to get some pics of the beam? i'd love to know how you managed to get it to fit with no body mods.

Spellbound ·

Very nice DD...

just curious...your side mirrors - are they the standard ones for this era or are they off something different? Im still learning...... 👍

whatnow ·

spellbound, they are an aftermarket accessory, $$$$$ if you can find an origional set (unless you get really lucky). there are reproductions about if you want to go that route.

PHAT BUG ·

Lookin good Damo!

BenettonVW ·

Ahh.. the midas touch... (with a bit of hard work) everything he touches turns to gold...

decked dubby ·

BenettonVW wrote:Ahh.. the midas touch... (with a bit of hard work) everything he touches turns to gold...
Wouldnt go that far..........but thanks mate.

whatnow ·

is that the same cabrio (with different tail lights) in the background or a new toy?

57oval ·

just want to know where you got your mirrors from, looking for a set for my oval, thanks

ruckus ·

They are called 'Albert' mirrors, well that's who they're originally made by anyway. Originals are very expensive (unless you are a lucky bastard) but as has been said repros aren't that hard to find.

Where'd you put the head unit? Car looks sooooo awesome!

Dasdubber ·

Bloody beautiful! Can you tell us a little more about the custom shock towers on that beam?? I'd love to see some pics!

How is the turning circle?

Great work once again!

reub ·

Now that is really nice👍

Drooooooooool 👍

whatnow ·

repro alberts... http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=247611 . there are other people reproing them aswell.

a search in the classifieds at the samba will turn up a fair amount of stuff and a search in the forums (oval and accessory imparticular) a lot of info.

decked dubby ·

whatnow wrote:is that the same cabrio (with different tail lights) in the background or a new toy?
No, different one, a 59. Not mine, but i am restoring it though.

decked dubby ·

No head unit, plugged into my mp3 like the ute. The suitcase has a box made inside it. The 6x9's are seperate from the sub, and each have their own amp. These are powered from the battery of the car. All i do is plug in my mp3 and away i go. There is no difference to the mp3 than using the supplied headphones. All it does is supply the sound.

kroozzn63 ·

man i love the colour combo with the flash mmmmm gloss black i likey

decked dubby ·

Dasdubber wrote:Bloody beautiful! Can you tell us a little more about the custom shock towers on that beam?? I'd love to see some pics!

Will take some under car shots.

Turning circle is fine. I choose to run 145 tyres on this car because i like the looks, but they have a fairly large diameter, so on full lock they just touch the headlight buckets. Will have a fiddle with this soon though when i get a chance. My orange beetle "buggin" is a little lower than the oval and does not touch at all, but it also has low profile tyres on it. Probably half the profile of the 145"s.

Dasdubber ·

Thanks mate, look forward to seeing the pics!

oval TOFU ·

Hey, where did you install the amps for the speakers? Just in the suitcase? did you have to seal up the back of the sub to stop it from blowing out the 6X9's with the amount of air it moves?

decked dubby ·

The amps are in the suitcase too. Each speaker has its own compartment.

DubbinDan ·

I liked this when you posted the first shots but...sheesh..that is one fine looking beetle now. The flash sets it off. Shweeet ride.

This thing is a work of art, and just has great presence on the road.
