Lowering Super B questions

Hey All,

Having never lowered a super before I'm coming across i few question i hope some of you can answer for me.

Firstly do you have to replace the strut or will shorter springs suffice. If shorter springs will do, how much drop would you expect from just them. and are these adjustable struts I'm hearing about any good? sounds... i dont know, dodge.

Thanks all,

Palms

yeah...adjustable struts are the best. and most expensive and have more clearance for wheels and tyres
i have used lower springs on mine and have about a 2-3 inch drop without changing strut and they are fine, but wheel and tyre choice are limited

Yeah you can lower one inch or so with just springs, but any more than that and you need more extensive mods, including spring seat relocation, caster and camber compensation etc etc.

One inch is fine for a good-looking street car with std width rims

Get adjustable struts! 😁

VWCOOL ·

Yeah. $1000.

Here is a great how-to Helbus

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING is what wheels do you want to run.
If you JUST want to lower it do what Helbus did.

IF you want wider rims (up to 7.5" - 8" under stock guards) go the thin spring adjustable.

Yes - they are round a grand BUT consider what you get.
NEW springs, inserts and struts. i.e. complete new suspension.
Try and get a new lowered beam and shocks done properly for that.

I can scan you the Topline brouchere if you like.
I has all the options there.

Hey Bizarre,
Thanks for the info mate, that was pretty cool.
I'm not sure what i want to run at the mo. still in the development stage, just want to know what i'm up for when i do.

What helbus did looks like a goer, might have to get out the grinder and have a go. If all goes wrong, just have to go all out :P

the only point about the option that helbus and i took is you need to be or know a qualified welder and you have to be spot on about your measuring. id recomend getting the local machine shop to spin the cups off personally

helbus ·

Definitley with suspension mods you would want qualified approved welding done.

Proud_Dad ·

Cheers, Barls, Helbus, Wasnt going to attempt the welding myself. wouldnt have a clue. as you prolly know barls, in our job, always know someone who know someone who owes them a favour. Got a mate who works at Road Movements here in willytown who has a lot of contacts for me.

yes there is always someone to ask with the right quals
