Square is better.

Why.................
1) not as common
2) blends with the bumper bar better

have a look. There is a difference.

The one down side of mine.
I use to have the square.
But currently i have round

MISS VDUB ·

I didnt realise there was a difference... can someone post pictures demonstrating this please?

wot she said!

Joel ·

ive kept the original round bottom on mine so i can put it back to standard if i want but i prefer the sqaure bottom for germanlook bugs
i've got a square one i'm gonna paint for it one day
but sqaure bottom only look good with indicators in the bumpers
this pics an old avatar so just ignore the other crap

and heres a sqaure bottom
they have squarer lines on the bottom and the hump under the handle

pretty sure they were on 75 and later Lbugs and cabrios
but the ones ive got came off a 73 and 75 so who knows
probably replacement panels

Blue is square

Red is rounded

The difference is quite obvious in those last two pics. Learn something new every day.

I see the red one has the later bumper and what is referred to as an earlier bonnet, and the blue one has the earlier bumper and what is referred to as an later bonnet? Is this part swapping in progress? Are the bonnets fully interchangable?

Did the 1302 Super Beetle ever come out with a square bottom bonnet?

How many different bonnets in total does this make?

up to 1968 (6 volt)
1969 on (12 Volt beam front end)
1302 S Bug (strut front end)
1303 L Bug round bottom
1303 L Bug square bottom

As far as i can tell - the square bonnet was a late 74 thing, but there doesnt seem to be any sense to it.

The red was a "converted" euro bumper as the guards had the indicators welded up. Dunno if the bonnet was original. It was a late 2 bolt strutter

Blue was original late 1974 2 bolter indicators in guards and square cut

Marty is 1975 original euro bumber 2 bolter and original curved bumper

the curved bonnets are much more common.
Square cut is quite un-common (sheesh... getting parinoid about saying rare)

These bonnets are fully interchangeable

As far as i know 1302 only had one bonnet
