You would have fried the fuse - has this been replaced?

the main difference in condensers is the shape of the plastic plug that fits the dizzy. Capacity also plays a part.
You would be better off putting the right condenser in there.
Try and get a spare first.
I always keep the old ones as a spare.

If ya really busted and and got one i can send you a spare that does work.

i fried one of mine years ago on a saturday in my 71 Sbug when i still had points and wasnt waiting for the VW shop to open on monday so went to cheapskateauto and the only vw one they had was a 62-66 transporter condenser
had to do some surgery to the grommet but it went for years after that
