I bought this little baby off e-bay.
It was advertised on here for a while too.
I drove it back to Hobart from Sydney over the weekend.
Before I left Sydney though it received a little suspension surgery in the form of a lowered and narrowed front beam from the guys at CBB in Penrith.
It drove home no worries, I sat on 110km/h all the way!
It runs a sweet 1600 single port that runs great!
Plans are for a bit of a tidy up, fix a couple of minor rust areas and find a nice set of wheels.
I've always wanted a raggie!:P

What a beaut. Great colour and stance. Are those white stripes etched or no? Another nice one goes to Tassie.
Well done matee. You've done it again.
62deluxe ·
Thanks buddy. The back wheels have flaps but the front rims are on loan from my 59, hence the different colour. It was missing one front flap when I got it and it spat another front one down the Hume freeway!!
It's only temporary until I get the wheels situation sorted.....
65busser ·
So it's a flap spitter. Isn't that German for something?
Oasis ·
It's English for something... :duh

62deluxe ·
I don't mind the rims but they aren't the look I'm after.
The beam is 2" narrowed.
It is sea blue too!

got new pics of it???
62deluxe ·
Not yet mate.
I'm waiting until i get the wheel thing sorted. It's a slow process dealing with the other side of the world.....
sgetty, it's a 1200 box, it revs alittle hard at 110 but it's not too bad. I did 110 all the way from Sydney to Hobart no worries. It makes them accelerate better too!
submachinegun ·
i love the sea blue. your small window 65+ are confusing the hell out of me! haha. 65 and later have the larger window glass here.
whatnow ·
SMG have you noticed the L/P front ends, round bottem engine lids with T handles, slotless wheels and 1300's till 67 yet?

Am i sensing another period racer in the style of Eddies Notch? No complaints here!!
Awesome car.. look forward to seeing it in the flesh! Err.. steel!

I've made a bit of progress. I got rid of the horrid 70's radio and made a gauge panel to cover the extra big hole they made in the dash. I'll put up a pic tomorrow..
BenettonVW ·
Well done Jeremy. I saw that on eBay and thought, gee that was cheap! Someone got a bargain!!
62deluxe ·
It was, and I did! Thanks mate.👍

My old wheels on the second last bottom shelf! The rarest wheels I've ever had/seen. Aussie made 'Keels'. Never liked them that much though...
62deluxe ·
Here's a few pics of the gauge panel I made to cover the big hole cut in the dash for the radio. It isn't finished yet. I'm gonna continue the chrome strip on the glove box lid etc right across so it all joins up.
62deluxe ·
A few close ups of the front end....

gj on teh gauges

My new top from TMI arrived the other day so I thought it was time to tackle the install.
The old one came off pretty easy really considering I had NO idea what I was doing!
It revealed a fair bit of surface rust on the front and rear panels that hold the top on so it was a good chance to clean it all up and give it a good dose of POR-15.
Whoever put the last top on ground the rag panels back to make them smooth under the new top but didn't bother to paint them!!! Lazy *#@%!
62deluxe ·
Access for the screws holding the rear panel on...
I'm just sitting here now waiting for the first stage of the POR-15 to dry......
62deluxe ·
The only little patch of surface rust on the body (under the rag anyway!!)
Cleaned up ready for POR-15ing.
Dasdubber ·
Good stuff - I don't know if you'll need it but I have a DVD outlining the restoration of the golde ragtop including reupholstery and adjustment etc from the US. Let me know if your keen. 👍
62deluxe ·
Cool!
dubmunky ·
Great looking bug!!!
Can I ask how much you lowered the car -thats the stance I'm after for mine.
whatnow ·
looks really good, love the mesh and bonnet straps. v.nice work on the gauges.
your rear ragtop bow is a bit nasty, but the front one is pretty good all things considered (the 2 that i have seen were both worse, one far far worse)
empi, have you considered adopting? if so pick me pick me!!! very nice collection of rims. consider parting with a set of torque thrust D's?
henry.
lethal_oz ·
Sweet ride... it's awesome
62deluxe ·
Well I've finally got some rims on the way. Nothing exciting in the end, but they should fit with the overall theme of the car.
Pics when I get them on.
Dubmonkey; The front is only about half way down on the adjusters at the moment, the rear is down one outer spline. Hope that helps. The front will come down more when I get the new wheels on!👍
Voodoo ·
damn you Jeremy! I was totally gonna put straps like that on my Bug but ya beat me to it 🙂,.. looks killer!!,.. where might I find a set? 😀
62deluxe ·
Hey bud. Mine came from the UK via good old e-bay. They were pretty cheap too. Meant for minis and MGs..

man that cars gonna look HOT when youre done with it! :thumb
62deluxe ·
I've finally got the new wheels on. It took a while and the choices changed alot along the way. In the end I went for BRMs which I have to say are not a favourite of mine at all but I think they suit the look of the car well.
I got the new seats in too (thanks Ed!!) and the bumpers are now history!
62deluxe ·
DAS and DDK....
The front wheels are missing their centre caps at the moment because I need to make up some 5mm spacers so they clear the drum centres (good one Flat4!!)
62deluxe ·
The sexy new seats..
62deluxe ·
62deluxe ·
Mmmm look at that hot muffler! LOL. It'll be going as soon as I work what to replace it with....
65busser ·
Great look Jezza. You got a nice plan goin' on there. Can you leave the bumpers off in Tassi? So she gonna come for a big boat ride?
kroozzn63 ·
excuse me but where in gods name did u get those sext ass seats from ?
62deluxe ·
They are Cobra Classics from Revolution Racegear. Sweet as.
Hey Brad, I was a bit of a cheat, I got it inspected then pulled off the bumpers and put in the seats, wheels etc etc. I've run a AH Sprite with no bumpers for years and had no dramas. I'll take my chances I guess...
The type3s are coming to the DOVW.
57oval ·
what size are your tyres f&r
62deluxe ·
175/55-15 Front (I want to be able to go around corners!)
185/65-15 Rear.
Both are Bridgestone.
reub ·
Very nice ride mate...love the original look, but like the new look better....
