Sulla ·

I have bought two 6 volt batteries from http://www.independantbattery.com.au

Contact them as they may have a distributor in your area.

I paid 65.00 for each in Melbourne (three years ago).

I need a new one, so will contact them today and post latest price here.

Federal Batteries have no stock in Australia but are expecting a shipment this year!

I ended up buying an 8 volt battery from COMET BATTERY CO in Geebung Qld. Tel: 07 3265 2233.
www.cometbatteryco.com.au

They modify 12 volt batteries (HOPPEKKE - Made in Germany) to operate as 8 volt.

Price was $180. You need a resistor set up for your regulator ($17.50). The regulator needs to re-set to 9.6 volt at 1750 rpm - a job for an auto electrician.

I won't be using my battery immediately as my two 6 volt batts are still ok, but are now about 3 years old.

They can freight a battery anywhere in Oz - dry or wet - but more expensive wet. (To me in Melbourne freight was just over $30 - dry.)

Total cost was $228.00.

Hope this helps others who may be contemplating similar steps to improve the lights on the 6 volt cars.

Regarding the Federal Battery 8 volt - It appears that it is very high and can cause problems with seat springs etc.

I will post more info as I get closer to using the 8 volt battery. (Info on cost of re-setting a regulator, acid etc).
