Free to good home: mini Dachshund (Sydney)

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/57670/free-to-good-home-mini-dachshund-sydney

sax ·

I need to find a home for my 2 year old mini dachshund called Schnitzel. He is a pure bred from one of the top Sydney breeders. The problem is he is very dominant and keeps standing over our other dachshund. He needs to be the only dog or be in a house where there is a bigger more dominant dog. Very loving towards people and a great watchdog, just too jealous of other dogs.
Maybe desexing him will help but I'd rather not as he is good enough to breed from and we paid $800 for him.

Anybody who has been to a VW show recently may have seen him as he loves dubs and enjoys long drives in them and the occasional car show.

Can anybody please help by taking this little dog and giving him a loving home, he really is a good watchdog but he's in the wrong house. Cats are no problem, our cats have him sussed out but the other dog is terrified of him.
Contact me on 0417 484 366 or 02 8824 3933 or email me on saxed at ozemail dot com dot au.

I would love Schnitzel. My wife and I have been thinking about a dog for some time and love dachshunds. The only prob is that we are in Adelaide. I would love to look at interstate transportation etc as he looks absolutely wonderful and we have no other pets.

Call Dogtainers they transport door to door.We used em for our dogs when we moved up from Sydney.Other than that please desex your dog,it will stop the dominance along with some training.A pet is for life...so is the training.

Ive got two four leggers as well , and I had the same problem when introducing a new "friend" for one of em.
He was used to be the "numero uno" around the house.
One male one female both de-sexed from resuce centres so that wasn't the issue...although I would go down that route anyway.

Anywho's I got in a company called "Barkbusters" who showed me how I could stop this behaviour by basically talking "dog" and some other excercises as well , now it didnt work overnight and a lot of it actually boils down to the fact that the dogs themselves have to work out the actual hierachy (females are the top rung btw) but now after some weeks of following the training mantra they are now a happy pair of waggers.
The good thing about Barkbusters is that they offer a lifetime g'tee so if at any point the little fella decides to chuck his weight around again they will come back and go over the same thing again.

Has to be worth a shot rather than getting rid of the little fella surely?.

As a footnote....you tried intergrating him with other dogs off the lead in one of the dog parks in Sydney , theres a top one in Leichhardt , could be just he has a bit of a social mixing problem generally..The female I picked up as a friend had this problem and this was gradually cured by using a velcro muzzle...stick it on at the start and if shes good then take it off...first sign of trouble then its back on..gradually she got the idea that if shes ok then theres no muzzle......now shes no problem.

Nice one mate!!!

I would just like to say Schnitzel is an awsome little dog.
Met him when we baught a dub of sax and suzzie last 12 months or more ago. have also seen him at several shows and is a happy little chappy.
Would make an awsome little buddy to cruise around with and talk dubs with:thumb

handycam ·

thay are grate dogs ive got one now :thumb

sax ·

Thanks guys, how are ya Jace?
We have tried everything we can including giving him extra love etc but it's no use.
The funny thing is he is only like this when Suzii is around. He doesn't want to share her with anybody (even me). Now I either get rid of Schnitzel or get rid of Suzii !

The problem is that little Roger was abused by a previous owner and it's taken us months to get anywhere with him only to go back to square one due to the doggy wars.

We don't want to desex Schnitty as he is pure bred and worth breeding if you find him a little wife. What can I do, we have to keep them separated 24/7 now and even with a muzzle on he still has a go. He never growls at us only at Roger.

Funniest thing I ever saw was when he tried it on with a German Sheperd and almost got eaten for his troubles.

Just a quick update reviving a thread from a little while ago.
Schnitzel arrived in Adelaide a couple of weeks ago and is settling in well. He took a while to shine to my wife and I but is now loving us as we are him.
I have to give a big thankyou to Martin and Suzi for all their help and assistance in ensuring that the big move to Adelaide was as smooth as possible.
They can be safe in the knowledge that he is thriving in his new environment and we love him dearly.
Here's some pics.

VWFOOL ·

this makes me cry
merry christmas to everybody

Dachies are the best thing out of Germany besides VWs of course. Have had them for over 30 years. Standard smooth, mini long and now mini wire. The only thing you have to do with them is teach them who is boss. No barkbusters can do this. It is a bonding between the dog and owner if you don't stay on top of them they will win. The best guard dog ever and will anything you want if you bond with them

sax ·

It's a happy ending alright, the little bugger has a great new home and is loved.

Thanks again Darren and Brooke.

VW_Gurl ·

that is a really cute dog.
