1300tp motor, couldnt get it to idle properly, seems that i put the fuel filter around backward and some crud blocked a jet. took the carb apart so idle is all good now.
new problem, once reaffixing single solex carb, when i push down on the shifter and go into reverse, the motor cuts out completely. dead. fine in all other gears.
possibly electric? doubt it would be cutting the fuel line?
any ideas

You have hooked up the reverse light wire to the wrong side on the coil, that will cut the engine every time you select reverse gear.

yep got caught with a oil cooler fan when the oil got hot the fan cut in the motor cut out bloody blamed everything except that

oooohh that can be a bugger to work out. took weeks to figure out something similar on one of my cars... turned out to be a bad earth .
