Mk4 Golf brakes

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/57716/mk4-golf-brakes

Bizarre ·

Put the Mk IV in for a sevice and they tell me the brakes are below the minimum thickness.
Pads are fine but duscs are gone :jesus

Only a 100,000 kms .......whatever...

Anyone know what ATE or DBA charge??

VW was quoting $518 front and $395 rear.
"Assuming" that is with pads.

Any other ideas on cost???

100 000 kms is really good life. try going to somewhere like repco and buying DBA rotors and i have been using LUCAS pads. i find these pads really good.
try to avoid using a really cheap brake pad.
and you should probably look at changing wheel bearings as well, depending on whether they have been changed yet or not

ring around you will do better

Bizarre ·

I bought the car at 50 odd thou. Brakes were still there - guessing they are the original.
So - pads - BRILLIANT!

Justsurprised then that the pads are going to last MORE than the discs 😂

Will ring - just being lazy and asking here on a Sunday evening

The rotors are about $130 4 a mark3 so i dont thing they would be much dearer for the Mk4

just spoke to anoth VW'er and Mk4's that stays on?

the rotor is only held on by one locking screw and it all just slides over.

I'm game for a $500 saving

yeah 2 bolts to undo n slide the caliper out of the way like most modern cars and hes right one screw to undo n the rotor comes off make sure yu uset he correct size screwdriver or you will burr the screw
