Dishwasher help needed

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/57725/dishwasher-help-needed

The nesting mum to be wants a dishwasher, so I have to do the research to find one.

Questions are.

Is stainless outside finish a bummer to keep clean? Fingerprints from kiddies fingers etc?

If you have had a dishwasher for 5 years (please new machine owners don't comment here), What brands have given you a trouble free time? What brands have given you an expensive or had to get rid of due to major problems?

What new machines purchased recently have great features that you find are amazing compared to an older machine?

Please be constructive when commenting, I need to know as much info as possible, as I can't afford it, let alone afford to get it repaired or replaced as soon as the warranty runs out.

Hi

To keep the stainless looking great, wipe some WD40 on a cloth, it dosent stink.

We had a Dishlex that failed when water got on the board because my wife broke the powder dispensor, then we bought a Kleenmaid, it was pain in the arse to load, I consider myself an expert at getting the most into a dishwasher and still getting stuff clean. We sent the Kleenmaid back and bought another Dishlex about 10 years ago, Ive replaced the light buld inside twice and a rubber flap in the sump brokedown and made plastic things taste like burnt rubber, thats all that has gone wrong.

Folks have had Meile (expenve to buy) but had no problems for over ten years.

after30+years in the white goods game, repairing most brands from your $ 300
Kmart special to $2,500 german machines
i would recommend a LG .new stainless is not to bad for fingerprints as it is low grade [rusts in the rain but ok inside were it belongs] currently i am the service agent for SMEG,BLANCO,TECKNIKA and LG.Ihave a 4yr old lg in this house and am very happy with the performance of it, most of my mates have them as well , i it wasnt any good i would not recommend them because i dont want grumpy mates ringing me to complain if it stops

Fisher and Paykel (sp)

NOT THE DRAWER ONE

Had it for 5 years. Never missed a beat. Cleans very very well. Easy to stack ( this is very important. some are right b@$tards to pack full.

Always use finish powder. not those tablets, they are too strong. You cannot put good knifes or pans ie circulon pans and wusdorf trident knifes as it ruins them with the cleaner.

Stainless fine with our toddler, is coated with something so it wipes clean easily. Parts are easy to get apparently, never needed them.

Had a Dislex for 14 years and now havea Smeg

The dislex had a better plate n cup rack the Smeg is a bit difficult to stack sometimes so u haveto work that part out whats best for yr plates etc etc

VWCOOL ·

the nesting mum should BE the dishwasher...lol

Had a BOSCH for 8 years and never missed a beat....bought another house and installed a SMEG....nothing but trouble in the 2 1/2 years we have had it (soap dispenser doesn't work....again). The Smeg was a dissapointment. Would definetely buy the Bosch again, it just cleaned better.Have also had Fischer/P and they stink inside after a while.ALWAYS check to see if the door is sealed on the BOTTOM on the INSIDE...this helps eliminate smells. Old man has a Meile and in 11 years still goes like new.😉 Good luck.Buying a dishwasher is a great investment, and actually use LESS water than washing by hand.....

We have had a double drawer stainless F&P for just over a year. Great, no probs and easy to load..The stainless is not a problem as we have had heaps of kids over and no fingerprints.
I dunno what anyone else thinks of them but i think they are great....use heaps less water too!

we have had a Miele for a few years with no probs at all. was more expensive than others but we wanted one that could be totally hidden. it has a front panel that is the same as the rest of our kitchen doors and the controls are in the top when you open the door. very quiet and cleans really well. apparently VW engine parts come up real nice in them too.... honest i have not tried it... 😁

buy german, such as bosch, AEG or miele. guaranteed that those units will give you the best wash, quietest operation and long life. i worked at bosch for several years. have had all their products, as do half my family and friends and never a hassle. miele is arguably the best, but with that comes their arogance and price. very good product.
currently i have AEG as it was rated for about 4 years hte best dishwasher with no exceptions. infact the first dishwasher to get a 'no bad point mention' in the comparison surveys. washes evrything, no rinsing first and cold water connection.
if you were in sydney i would suggest designer homeware in camperdown, but i am not sure in melbourne. maybe michael kings, but try and speak to scott.
jsut for some back ground. 10yr or older dishlex, was actually a rebadged bosch. for a long time they supplied many a brand with their product. dishlex today... not soo good. kleenmaid is jsut plain crap eally. product sourced from ever and rebadge. bad of this is that they can change anytime, there for could have parts problems later... or your friend could vouch they like their 'woteva' from kleenmaid, yet when you order it is from another source.

In addition to picking wisely, option the extended warranty if offered. My inlaws had the standard two year manufacturers warranty plus the 3 year extension making a total of 5 years. 3 months before the end of the extension warranty at the 4 year 9 month mark the dishwasher died a horrible messy death. The extended warranty which is essentially an insurance policy, paid to replace the dishwasher, they were even allowed to option the warranty extension again giving them another warranty period of a further 5 years. In financial terms that means they are guarenteed a dishwasher for 10 years for the original price plus the warranty extension....Total cost was about $1000.00 which is cheap peace of mind.

This is real good help guys, really really good.

Oh and I tried to chain the wife to the sink while barefoot, and she is pregnant, but remembering she is 6th level Muay Thai kickboxer made me rethink.

I like the parts cleaner option 🙂

Looking at a lot of reviews, the Miele certainly shines out as a champion. Price is so painful. It seems German machines ranked up in most reviews.

helbus ·

Maybe it is all the Wiener Schnitzel, Spaetzel, Bratwurst etc. Need a good dishwasher to clean up?

koolkarmakombi ·

Have had meile, not worth the $$$ over F & P

we have the one before this

I had a Bosch one for 3 years and it was awesome, never missed a beat and didn't smell AT ALL. It was stainless steel too, and the WD40 or light machine oil cleans any steel a treat. 🙂

When's the bub due? Congrats to you both! 😘

helbus ·

You are correct, I do have a dishwasher. Now the wife wants one

Yogie ·

Had a 15 year old dishwasher by Miele and it was great Had a dishlex that was pretty good as well. Had a Fisher & Paykel as well. Wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy as they are a piece of garbage.

Bought a new Miele 12 months ago and it is great. You can get larger plates in the bottom drawer, the middle drawer can be lifted up to make space for bigger plates below or dropped down to make room for taller glasses.

It also has a 3rd drawer up the very top for cutlery. This gives more room for plates on the bottom and more room for cutlery as well. It cleans great with no rinsing beforehand.

Miele cost more but last longer and do a better job by far compared to any dishwasher I have had. Not a lot more than ordinary machines in the scheme of things and it will cost less in the long run as you will not replace it as often.

Went for the Miele G1220 in the end. The same as yours maybe Yogie.

Buy now and enjoy for 20 years eh?

Had to not reregister the motorbike, and eat jam sandwiches every day for 3 months to afford it, but I have to keep the momma happy.

But we will have really clean dishes. 🙂

Twokombies ·

To keep the stainless surface clean you can use windex. Foam it up a little and rub with the grain. It will rub off and into the grain and leave a nice dry surface. The other things will leave an oily residue on the surface. I use this on the lift door in my offisce and it works a treat.

swish1 ·

warning dont spray windex or any ammonia based cleaner near any of the screen printing or knobs on control panel it will strip it off quick smart and not covered by warrenty

helbus ·

I am happy just to leave fingerprints on it, and so is the missus. She only has to wash dishes for one more week until I install it.
