probably need a puller.

Anthiron ·

bugger

blutopless2 ·

your talking about the front pulley yeah?

Anthiron ·

yeah the fan pulley.

its in 2 peices and u sandwich the shims in between them to make the adjustments.

the front peice comes off when u undo the nut. the rear peice of the pulley is rock solid attached to the genny shaft.

Nick,
Check really carefully for bruises on the rear half around shaft and signs of rust. I already screwed one pulley half totally as it was rusted to the shaft and the two jaw puller promptly deformed it. Wound up slicing it off.

meh i think ill just try and find another one probobly easier than trying to get this thing off.

Bizarre ·

try and get an OG pulley

the new ones ARE crap.
Look for the earlier ones with the big locking tangs

Anthiron ·

i was thinking more about just getting a whole new genny rather than play with this one.

You dont have one in any of these??

"62/60 model bug eye baja bug, (daily driver)
early big window bug eye baja bug, (parts)
mid 60's baja bug in peices, (project)
71 superbug (parts/bush basher)"

Anthiron ·

the genny from the yello bug is rooted ive already tried that on another engine, and the superbug and the other baja have no engines.

Anthiron ·

got it off. thanks for the tip graham.

soaked it for about 3 hours in WD40 and then about 10 mins with 2 big screwdrivers got it off eventually.

gennys fixed 🙂
