I have an oval beetle still on 6 volt with trafficators, What I want to do is insert my semaphores and have it so when the arm is up the light flashes. I've been told this can be done. Could any one explain to me how. By the way I only know the basics about electronics, any wiring diagrams or picturees would be great help.
Cheers

hhmm what about adding a 6 volt flasher relay in the line that leads to the light ?

this can be done as i have done it with mine... though i also converted them to 12volt.
what you need to do:
the lamp and coil are connected together in the semaphore assembly... this join needs to be seperated.
you will need a second wire run into the semaphore from behind the dash of the car.
what i did:
i altered the indicator system so that the indicator lever has a 12v supply on the common terminal, the left and right positions power two seperate relays. these relays (DPDT) - when on - supply power to the coil of the semaphore and ground out the flasher unit through the indicator system including the lamp in the semaphore.
its a bit of fiddling around -specially running the second wire... but mine had no wires to use as drawthroughs.... whole thing took me around 2-3 hours on my own..
hope this helps.

DPDT are they a type of relay that you used? Sorry this probably sounds silly trust me I only know the basics bare with me.

DPDT is the type of relay... double pole double throw.
means that there are two sets of contacts driven from the one coil operation.

Can you get the DPDT in 6 volt at all?

not sure if you can get the coils in 6volt. try dick smith, jaycar or any of the electronics places they would have them if you can get them in 6v
