Porsche Trans conversions

G'day all, i have been contemplating installing a Porsche trans into my IRS floorpan instead of using the standard SSP VW trans that i have. I have been looking at the prices of building a tough VW trans with ALbins gearset etc and it seems for the bread that a 915 conversion would be a better way to go, i have found conversion parts that are custom made from bug@5speed.com and they include new front shifter housing custom gear shifter and rear brace which will allow fitment of a 915 trans into my pan with only a little bit of trimming and the cutting of a hole underneath the pan. My main question is how much have any of you paid for a good 915 trans and has anyone done this conversion themselves. I figure that i already have the Porsche 944T brakes installed (tech article in new edition of VWMA) so why not put in a Porsche trans to be pushed along by a big type 4 engine that i am building. It would be worth your while grabbibg a beer and giving Richard Holzl a call. Dieter has just about finished his conversion.
I wouldnt call it a little bit of cutting.
Hey - maybe they did it wrong.
I am sure either Dieter or Richard would be more than happy to share the knowledge. Pretty sure they have taken pics.
If not - the pan is bare. I can take the happy snaps now with the body off if you like.

i guess you've already looked at the tech article on cal-look.com and checked out the shop talk forums?

porsche box's aren't that cheap here as alot of cars got brought in from the us less engine and box so bringing a box in from the us might be the way to go. (i was thinking along those lines anyway, at least till kids and morgage put cars on hold)
