I'm fixing up a type three at the moment and I've been trying to hunt down a few bits and pieces. Does anyone know where I could get a new roof lining and rubbers for the doors?
Thanks
Pete

I looked around to get headlining made for my square, it is very expensive (In SA at least) From what I have heard from few people it is easier and less expensive (around 300 400?) to get from the States

Hi,
I have a new Type 3 Hoodlining, never fitted $100.
I also have 2 new German Door Rubbers never fitted $300 the pair.

Buy the headliner from Calcool!
I got my door rubbers from The DDB in Oregon, USA, for AUS$125 landed a pair, and they are the pinch type that more modern cars have, and take place of the factory t3 pinches. I'm really happy with them and I've only heard good things about them from samba members. Otherwise german seals can be bought from local dealers, but are big bucks. Best to buy them in complete kit form from america, where you get inner/outer scrapers/felts/door seals all german for both sides. Expensive though. Another option is to try brazilian ones which are cheap as crap. They're apparently pretty crap, but I've never heard that from someone who fitted some. If they are crap it's only $30 to find out anyway. Then you can try something else. I think empikg said they weren't so bad....?:blah

He is a member on this thread, who answered your post just before I did. Selling his for 100 which is great value. Listen to EmpiKG regarding brazil door seals, because he's actually tried them, sound like they are best to avoid.

cool, whats your suggestion for auto trimmers in the melb/rural vic area?
Petey ·
oops, thanks...
Calcool is selling a headliner for a type 3 squareback, and unfortunately I'm looking for a notch back headliner.

If you can get the material for the headliner (assuming it's the original dotted vinyl) or for that matter any of the cloth type materials you can make your own as long as you have an old one as a pattern. I got the vinyl original (not perforated) from Vic when he was at Volksbahn. Nick and Leanne may still be able to help here for original type.
The material can be sewn on a normal home sewing machine. It isn't a difficult task to make and fit it as long as you take it easy. I've done three now so maybe I do know how difficult it isn't rather than listen to some who have only heard it is a problem! If many of the group started to do more of these tasks theirself, the cost of a restoration would be much less and I'm sure they would gain more satisfaction from the exercise.

my headliner is a TMI from George at Classic vdub in Sydney,
I did speak to rod penrose (who is a trimmer) and he could make you one, but he's near Wollongong.
Mine was fitted by cartrim 9889 5183 in Camberwell,
there are loads in the yellow pages
