just experimenting with the appearance:
Wondered what the concensus is,

Would you leave towel Rail "bumper" on or go with the other?

compare

Streetbuggy ·

Single blade every time 😀

ByronBug ·

:sandrine
When I bought my bug it came with an old towel rack but wasn't fitted on it.
I hated the look of it.
Been driving around for a while with no bumper bar on ...quite a different look too.
Now just bought a shiny single bar to be fitted on the weekend....
then it will be a real looker.

Phil74Camper ·

I like the stock look, with the over-riders. Aussie-made VWs had US-spec bumpers from 1962-67, so that's good enough for me. Single-blades look fine on earlier VWs, but to me they look weird on later cars. British-spec mid '60s Beetles, with single-blade euro bumpers and small uprights, look like they're missing something.

hool ·

go the single blade, lose the towel rails..

lugnuts ·

Keep it on if your past 30 otherwise ditch it dude.😀

fish ·

if its not on, its not on. fish

Tazzielittle ·

If you take them off, where are you goin to dry your towels?
Leave them on.... they look kool!

Dasdubber ·

I like the towel rails - looks cool with them on.

HotRodMatt ·

Lose the towel rail... looks better and easier for me and photoshop!

Yogibear ·

Keep it on if your past 30 otherwise ditch it dude
Well said lugnuts!

Cheers

Unity-28 ·

Same dilemma! At the moment Im leaning towards keeping them, but I have a 63 that came with them. With Oval taillights thought I would have a single blade, but either way it will look cool! Good luck!

N!

NigeType3 ·

The more crome the better I say.

Nige:thumb

matara ·

Don't rear towel rails block your rear oval lights?

Steve

baybuscamperkid ·

anyone noticed the somewhat disturbing percentages!?! on my computer i see 166%

BenettonVW ·

I think it is more about the look you are going with with ya Dub..

See JIMGOW for example, had heaps of accessories and shit hanging of it, so the more chrome and bits, the better, so they suited the car.

Similar story with the Notch as far as accessories, but the towel rail saga isn't a factor for the Notch unless I wanna pay a fortune.. However, I am about to go from a Type 3 'blade' to adding NOS overriders to the bumper, so Glen, I guess it depends on the look you're after!!

Towel rail:thumb

but then I'm over that number somebody quoted:jesus

SKEWtYpe3 ·

1.towel rails has the old original look about them
2.no rails is a bit of a cal look thing

what look are you after, i like both !!

:bounce

OvalGlen ·

LOL... I appreciate and Really Enjoyed your replies.
Flanders, you had me on the floor 😀
-
I'm over 30 but way young at heart.
(maybe a midlife crises.)
I've started to change the Look of my ride.
I'll have to make up my mind.
-
I too like both options, but the lighter one may win out, power to weight mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

OvalGlen ·

did someone mention Rear ?
I'll have to get better pic, but for now

OvalGlen ·

oh as far as Tail rail visibility, this is down at bumper height. It only gets better as you get higher.
At an angle one may get obscurred, but not from normal following driver height.

Grey 57 ·

Loose the towel rails Glen.
Towel rails are for bathrooms😀😀😀

Boozer ·

😀 Go Baja! design and build your own bumper/bullbar and make it look how you want! I say make it look like something off a Mad Max buggy!😀:thumb Yeee Haaa!

OvalGlen ·

well its going blades at present, see how it feels on me after a spell...:thumb

TheGermanFolks ·

I like what is original to the car. Blades look cool, but only if you have the bumperguards. A bare assed balde bumper look stupid.

The_Bronze. ·

You can guess what my vote was?

I'm with boozer!
Go the whole nudge bar front and caged engine rear!
You only need towel rails when you get wet. Bajas don't get wet - they cut wakes.

kustomkool ·

Towel rails suit 60s beetles ,On a oval I would go with a blade and overriders, mad look on any oval,But I would rip all the bumpers offf and go for t,bars love that Calook,My bug is a 64 with towel rails I went through a stage when I hated em but now I luv em.specialy with amber spots.good luck dude.

XXX-1.8T ·

Keep the original towel racks they look especially nice when they are shiny on a darker car:bounce

Boozer ·

Very true Bronze. I agree completely except for one point. nudge bars are too wussey looking, as soon as i can i'm going for something more robust like a truck bull bar!😀

dakgrrl ·

350% of us say you should leave the towel rails on, compared to only 200% who say take them off! How can one argue with those figures?

pyr0 ·

single balde WAY KOOLER :bounce:bounce:bounce

mattie ·

who cares what anyone else thinks its your car!!!

vw54 ·

TOWEL RAILS

GLENN here in Aussie there called Over riders not bloody towel rails...

I suspose you have to work out if the car is going to be modified or standard

Like my Orange Smoothiee or my 65 Sea Blue

OvalGlen ·

I sit " corrected ".
Wishing I was Sucking down the crownies too.
So Dave what do you call the standard Oval over-riders, you know the small vertical lumps.?
