I'm going to get some sideplates laser cut...I can get extra done for
anyone who wants to play with splitbus beam narrowing etc etc
They're in 10mm plate and I've moved the shocker mount 2.5" or
so rearwards so the shocker should not foul on the beam mounting bolts
(well in theory - if you narrow the max 4" its possible they could touch and you'd
have to trim the bottom shocker mount a bit - CAD says no but sometimes it doesn't
come out exactly the way you'd expect....).
I've left the mounting holes
at 13mm (I've CAD'ed with a tight tolerance). However, if the tolerances don't stack up and
its too tight to mount the mounting holes might have to be drilled out
to 14mm - (all those available OS seem to be 14mm anyway...).
That's all the caveats. If you want some they'd be $105 per pair including
postage to you.
(I'd prefer money up front - sorry but I don't want to end up personally out-of-pocket with spare sets hanging around my garage...)

I'll take a set too. please forward details. do you still do dropped spindles?
splitbusaustralia ·
No worries - I'll get back to everyone with U2Us etc in a few days.
I still do dropped spindles (and rebuild stock).

You will need to replace the bakelite trailing arm bushes after the welding process
Do you have these if not i know a source
splitbusaustralia ·
I was going to pull them out dave?
humpty ·
There is some dude on thesamba making drop molded 'nolathane' style inserts for LP bus beam...
theres a dude in moorebank making these (definate demension engineering)
wiseoldub ·
that would be rob , wouldn't it!? funny how these split engineering freaks are all called rob. great blokes too! allways been willing to help when i have rung up for advice!!
cheers josh
when you doing complete narrowed beams rob? you'll be a really busy boy then!!!!

Are these the things needed to fit late bay beam to splitty? (see my IRS/brakes splitty idiot thread in Chat)
???
59_BUS ·
No these are to narrow a king link pin beam only. From my knowlegde you can only fit an early bay beam to a split. The later model beams don't fit.

Actually,
You can make sideplates to fit any bay 'beam' to a split
(well you weld the bay torsion tubes etc into new sideplates
which then bolt into a splitty). They are different to the ones I'm offering here because the bay beam has
larger torsion tubes which are further apart.
I am personally not a great fan of putting a bay beam into
splitty and then lowering 5+ inches on adjusters - they ride
like crap and chop out balljoints. 5+ inches you say?
Well, bay beam arrangement makes a splitty ride 2 inches
higher to begin with. Lower 2 inches to get to stock height
then another 3+ inches to actually 'lower'. They
are OK with bay balljoint dropped spindles and adjusters (but have you priced
balljoint dropped spindles lately?).
The plates above are to narrow the original K&L beam as 59Bus says...

Hey, Rob I think you've just convinced me to run a king link pin front beam, if the boat hasn't sailed I would like a set of these plates, You have U2U.

Thanks for the info... not what need then!

Ok - hopefully those that wanted a set have them now!
As a final note I should point out that I’ve sorta assumed
K&L dropped spindles would be used to lower by anyone narrowing
a splitbus beam with the above sideplates. I have based the upper shock mount position on this assumption.
In this application (3.5” drop with dropped spindles) KYB GR-2 shocks
Part No. 43144 should be fine (extended length 420mm compressed length 265 mm).
However, If you really want it on its nuts and want to add adjusters into the mix for another 1” or so lower KYB GR-2 ‘lowered’ shocks Part No. 44068 should be fine (extended length 385mm compressed length 245 mm). Note you’d have to raise the steering box here too or you’ll spend much more time hung up than actually driving anywhere.
If you go adjusters only and you want to lower more than 1-2 inches (don’t know why you’d do this with a K&L beam when dropped spindles and adjusters don’t differ that much in price) you’ll have to track down some really short shocks (200mm compressed length).
