Hi all having a few probs hooking up an alternator in a buggy that was given to me in parts. it's a ball joint bug that has a type 4 1800 in the back. The alternator was missing when i got it and i have got one and put it in. now i have no idea which wires to put where. i have hooked up the big red to the starter battery lead on the solinoid which i think is right. then there is a three pin plug with a red, green and a brown. there is also a short blue wire in with the red at the plug and a black wire coming out of the condue with no plugs. i don't know if this alternater needs a regulater or not. i have hooked the dash light to the green and the brown to earth. the dash light comes on when ignition is turned on but won't go off when the engine is running. I have tried all the searches but can't find out anything about which colour wire goes where. Hope somone can help me with this prob thanks Gary.

Hi,
Go to tech mods section, go to the second page, find "Alternator Conversion on Klaus". At the end I have a wiring diagram for hooking up an externally regulated alternator to a generic Bosch two prong 50Amp reg.
The Bosch 50 Amp solid state reg is the one you'd fit to an old holden or ford in place of the mechanical regulator. Dunno the part number.
