FS (PERTH) - 73\' L Bug - now $3500 ono

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/59780/fs-perth-73-l-bug-now-3500-ono

Doug Sweetman ·

People,

Well the sad day has come for me to sell my 73, which has been my trusty daily driver for the last 3 and a half years. I'm moving to something more comfortable as I am getting old and soft. But hey, theres still a baja in the shed, so thats ok....

I've dropped the price to $3500 or nearest offer now.

Anyways, specs below and photos to follow;

BODY
No rust, all cut out 4 years ago, including two new pan halves.
Colour is porsche guards Red, and paint condition is fair to good (hey, I gotta be honest). Stone chips on guards, and some other small damage is all.
I put all new window rubbers and door rubbers in it, but the window scrapers are original still.
Has Jap import celica front bucket seats, and new belts when I built her up.
HAs a panasonic CD player and 6x9's in parcel shelf.
New running boards 18 months ago.

ENGINE
1835cc (69x92) built by Bill at Volkswest
Counterweighted crank, rebushed and balanced stock rods
New P&C's
Whole rotating assembly balanced.
Deep sump
Brand new 044 heads, with 37 x 35 (I think) SS valves, HD springs. No porting on heads.
HSC 2 camshaft.
Twin Kadrons, recently rebushed and carby kit installed, with K&N air filters.
Thunderbird 1 5/8" extractors

GEARBOX
SSP IRS, rebuilt by Chris at Volkswest 4 yrs (~30,000km) ago
New pinion bearing, new reverse gear (~$900 rebuild)

THE REST.....
EMPI 8 spoke mags with 195 65 15's in good nick
KYB gas strut inserts front and KYB gas shocks rear.
Nolathane bushes in front end.
New tie rod ends about 2 yrs ago.
New front discs about 2 yrs ago, pads of same vintage.
Good 2nd hand drums on rear.
New rear wheel bearings about 2 yrs ago.
SAAS sports steering wheel.

Regularly serviced by Kurt at Vee Dub Repairs and spares. If you are intersted I can probably chase up most of the receipts for work done.

Its a well sorted, very reliable great daily driver and I will be very sad to see it go. I've got a set of professionally lowered (not cut) springs for the front struts which can go with it too.

Either U2U me, post, or call me on 041359 7035 (or 9419 9516) to talk.

Sellers name Doug Sweetman.
Address - Bertram, Perth W.A

Cheers

Hi

Is this the same car in your avatar?

Steve

Doug Sweetman ·

Yes. Those pics were taken at a VW club of WA autokhana near york a couple of years ago, before I put the running boards on.

rgvlee ·

IIRC you won that year Doug 🙂

Doug Sweetman ·

Yep. fantastic day out. I drove the bug into work today for the first time in two weeks (have been driving my cushy comfy Cressida 🙂 ) and loved it.

I'll sure miss it when its gone, but I just cant keep it.

1303Steve ·

Hi

The pictures in your avatar might put people off. Its nice looking car as well.

Yeah Steve, I had thought about changing the avatar, but I like to be as upfront with people as I can - and its surely not the only car on this forum thats attended the odd club motorsport event.

Appreciate your comment though.

Hey Doug. Let's get serious.

How hard would you think NSW registration would be? Do you have any engineering reports for the hard work you have done?

And freight to Sydney? I would assume around $400?

Hope to hear from you.

elvisbuiltmyvw wrote:what the hell is this bump thing?
Exactly what you (and I ) have just done.

Pushed (or bumped) the add to the top of the page again

Also dave

really dont think rego in NSW would be all that hard.
Nothing is really changed.

All the work that has been done is basically refreshing stock.
Dual single barrels are and acceptable (ie non "modified") addition.
As well i think the motor would be classified as a 15% addition - again no eng cert required.
Would just require a blue slip

Doug Sweetman ·

There you go..... and the best freight quote I got to Sydney was $660.

1303Steve ·

Hi

If this car was on the east coast (not that there's anything wrong with the west coast) we would not be having this bumpfest. For the freight price quoted, it would still be a good priced car.

Steve

VWCOOL ·

just doing the ring around for insurance.

Doug Sweetman ·

np mate, look forward to the call.

1916 ·

yeah me too..could save me a lot of $$ in the long run if the body is as you say.

just a question.

is there anything in particular i should be telling the insurance company about the engine that might effect the cover?

Anthony
I am sure if ( when ) you state yor name they will advise you of the cost

sound like a good deal , the motor would have to be worth over 2K as it is .

1916 ·

yeah thats not the dilemma..

my question is would i have to tell them of ALL the engine components changed .etc

as i would hate for it to have a prang and then find out im not covered because of selected engine components .etc

seagull ·

One would just ask ( pick up the phone & ring Doug ) he is walking around doing nothing any way ( he does this all day )

Doug is it lic with this motor ?

I feel you will lose this deal Anthony , be quick

1916 ·

i have already called doug neil.

arrangements are being made 🙂

Anthony

seagull ·

& satan came forth.....:vader

Doug Sweetman ·

Yep its licensed with this motor - correct engine number and it had this motor in it when it went over the pits.

As Barry said before its all within the 15%.

Doug Sweetman ·

Oh, and ignore what Gull said. I happen to work very hard....... sometimes.

Oi, Gull why dont you get some photos up of the dragon instead of continually changing your mind about what motor to put in it !

seagull ·

Anthony not want it ?

1916 ·

hey guys..have been working WAY too much..14 days straight :|

im still at work while posting this.

i have decided against it as the money i find would be better spent on a transmission that is going to handle the power i throw at it..

would rather drive a rusty subaru powered bug that wont break than a rust free beetle with busted gearbox.

sorry about the delay doug.

Neil you have U2U

Doug Sweetman ·

No probs Anthony, just remember that the box in mine is a single side plate IRS, rebuilt with a superdiff already installed.

Several guys on this forum run that setup very successfully in their bugs with EJ20's. Of course if you are going to compete in the burnout competitions, you might want a G50, but hey, whatever blows your hair back.....

seagull ·

Do you want to part out the Gear box with super diff ? & drop a stock unit in ?

I dont need it but some one may

1916 ·

dont want to compete in burnout comps (they dont float my boar) instead prefer peace of mind as far as the box goes.
